Icarus, the session-based survival game, presents players with added challenges to the genre such as managing oxygen levels. Failing to do so may result in the character’s death which can be very detrimental. Whenever a character dies in Icarus, all items it was carrying will be lost, and they will accrue a penalty to their experience points.

Because Icarus features this punishing system, it is all the more important that players manage their four main stats effectively. These are health, food, water, and oxygen. Most fans of survival games will be well acquainted with the first three, however, Icarus also demands that players manage their oxygen levels.

To do this, players will have to harvest materials and build contraptions that will aid them in producing oxygen more effectively. However, it should be noted that before focusing on farming these materials, players should prioritize building basic tools. Some of the tools that will be essential in being an effective survivor in the harsh world of Icarus are the pickaxe, the hatchet, and the knife.

Oxygen Locations and Farms in Icarus

To fill up their Oxygen bar in Icarus, players must find Oxite. These blue stones are spread all around the planet, and can be found somewhat easily lying on the ground. When obtained, players can open their inventory by pressing 'I', and consume the blue stones individually or by stacks, by pressing the right mouse button, to restore oxygen levels. As some players may have discovered during the Icarus beta weekends, it is also possible to obtain Oxite from Oxite Boulders. These can often be found in the cliffsides and can be mined, much like other ore nodes, by using a pickaxe. Players can build a stone pickaxe early in the game by combining 10 fibers, four sticks, and six stones. Oxite boulders will provide a very high number of Oxite rocks.

As players level up and spend points on their Tech Tree they can eventually learn to build an Oxidizer in Icarus. This contraption can be built with eight sticks, 12 fibers, 20 leather, and 10 bones. After which, players can press F while facing it to provide Oxite in exchange for oxygen. The Oxidizer will slowly produce oxygen in a bag which players can consume to replenish their bar. The fuller the bag of air becomes, the greater amount of oxygen players will receive. It is recommended that players use the Oxidizer as soon as possible to survive the harsh world of Icarus, as it is much more efficient than consuming raw Oxite.
