We all know that remakes are all the rage in Hollywood right now, but it seems that horror movie remakes are getting the most attention. The Fog, Halloween, The Blob, The Birds, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Last House on the Left and several others are currently in some phase of production. A few have already been released, and of those, none are considered to be better than the original (I’m talking about you Nightmare on Elm Street).
Cinetel Films is looking for director Steven Monroe to change that trend with their remake of the 1978 cult-classic I Spit on Your Grave. The original was first called Day of the Woman but eventually it came to be known only by the grave-spitting title people are most familiar with now.
I Spit on Your Grave stars Sarah Butler (couple episodes of CSI: NY) as novelist Jennifer Hills, who goes to an isolated cabin in the woods to have some alone time to work on her next project. She is soon terrorized by a group of local men who beat, rape and leave her for dead in a river. However, Jennifer doesn’t die and decides to take revenge on all of her attackers. What follows is retribution of an extreme nature.
The horror/revenge flick has a new trailer and it’s nothing more than a short teaser that merely sets up some of the more “interesting” scenes, including the implied use of rusty garden shears *shudder*.
Enjoy the trailer below:
Also starring in I Spit on Your Grave are Chad Lindberg, Daniel Franzese, Tracy Walter, Rodney Eastman, Jeff Branson and Mollie Milligan.
I’ve included the trailer for original 1978 movie in case you aren’t familiar with it so you can get an understanding of what to expect. The voice-over guy sounds a lot like the voice-over guy from the latest Machete trailer.
At least Cinetel Films is trying to remake a poorly-made horror film and not one that was a true classic like The Blob or Halloween. If the horror remake trend must continue, then I would like to suggest a couple of my favorite films I would like to see get an update: Frogs and Night of the Lepus. Anytime there are man-eating amphibians or giant killer rabbits, you have a recipe for success.
What did you think about the teaser trailer for I Spit on Your Grave, how do you feel about remaking classic cult horror films and which ones would you like to see remade?
I Spit on Your Grave takes its revenge on hapless victims everywhere September 2010.
