Warning: This post contains spoilers for I Know What You Did Last Summer season 1, episode 6.
I Know What You Did Last Summer season 1 added to the mystery by introducing a cult — here’s every character confirmed to be connected to it, past and present. Amazon’s horror series, based on the 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan, has had a few twists and turns, throwing a wrench into the proceedings just when it seems like the characters are finally getting answers.
In I Know What You Did Last Summer season 1’s episode 5, it was revealed that Bruce was previously married to Clara, the cave-dwelling figure who was there the night the teens ran over Lennon and left her body to be washed away with the tide. For a while, Clara remained an elusive character. But her story took an interesting turn when it was discovered she was actually a part of a cult in Wai Huna, and the last survivor of a mass suicide that took the lives of the other members 25 years prior.
I Know What You Did Last Summer season 1, episode 6 confirmed that Clara wasn’t the cult’s only living member, past or present, either. While there is still a lot of mystery surrounding the cult and what exactly it is they believe in, here is every character with ties to the cult in the horror series.
Clara
This is the most obvious cult member since I Know What You Did Last Summer didn’t keep Clara’s connection to the cult a secret for long. Clara still lives in the abandoned buildings that presumably belonged to the cult, chopping away at animals, hanging them in the cave, and coating their remains in what looks like melted wax. It’s rather unclear if these dead creatures are meant to be a part of a sacrifice or ritual, but Clara’s creepy factory was certainly dialed up in I Know What You Did Last Summer season 1’s episode 6 after it was suggested she killed Riley.
Bruce Grant
Bruce, Allison and Lennon’s father, is perhaps one of the most surprising characters in I Know What You Did Last Summer. He seems like a caring father, but there are far more layers and secrets he harbors that are just now bubbling to the surface. Not only was Bruce married to Clara (before he married the twins’ mother), but he was also a member of the cult. It’s possible he left the cult behind at some point between marrying Allison and Lennon’s mom and her leaving them behind. Bruce is very guarded about his past and tried to keep Lennon from telling Allison about their mother; he also wanted Clara to stay quiet about his involvement with the cult so he could likely maintain the life he’s made for himself in Wai Huna.
Fred Phillips
Fred Phillips is the one character who keeps being discussed, but has yet to appear onscreen in I Know What You Did Last Summer. Season 1, episode 6 revealed that he ordained Bruce and Clara’s marriage ceremony, and therefore a member of the elusive cult. What’s more, Fred was seemingly in contact with Lennon before she died, and is someone Alison reached out to in the episode in a bid to get more answers.
Alison & Lennon’s Mother
There’s still a lot of mystery surrounding Alison and Lennon’s mom, who was revealed to still be alive in I Know What You Did Last Summer season 1, episode 6. However, Alison does learn that not only did her mom not die by suicide, but that she was also a member of the cult alongside Bruce and Clara. The series alludes to their mom and Bruce having met during their time in the cult. Like Bruce, she left the cult at some point and, rather than stay in town, disappeared altogether from Wai Huna and the lives of her family.
