Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins heads to TNT for the limited series thriller I Am The Night, and she’s taken Chris Pine along for the ride. The first trailer for the upcoming miniseries promises a suspenseful noir that evokes everything from L.A. Confidential to Hollywoodland to The Black Dahlia, as it tells a true story that explores some of the seediest elements of post-war Hollywood.

As Jenkins’ first directorial work after the massive success of Wonder Woman, it’s no surprise that TNT is marketing the series as heavily on her stardom as it is on Pine’s. From the first look, it appears the series once again shows off Jenkins’ knack for period drama, albeit this time without the help of an Amazonian warrior goddess played by Gal Gadot. And while all eyes have been on Jenkins’ currently in production ‘80s-set sequel to Wonder Woman — complete with Chris Pine wearing a fanny pack — it looks as though the director will have two projects ready for release in 2019.

The series, which was formerly titled One Day She’ll Darken will fall under the umbrella of the newly christened TNT Suspense Collection, and also stars India Eisley, Jefferson Mays, Leland Orser, Yul Vasquez, Dylan Smith, Golden Brooks, Justin Cornwell, Jay Paulson, and another Wonder Woman alum, Connie Nielsen. Check out the synopsis below:

Chris Pine in I Am The Night TNT

I Am the Night tells the incredible story of Fauna Hodel (Eisley) who was given away at birth. As Fauna begins to investigate the secrets to her past, she follows a sinister trail that swirls ever closer to an infamous Hollywood gynecologist, Dr. George Hodel (Mays), a man involved in the darkest Hollywood debauchery. Pine plays Jay Singletary, a former Marine-turned-hack-reporter/paparazzo.”

Considering the star power in front of and behind the camera, I Am The Night is perhaps the most ambitious push into the supposed prestige television arena by TNT so far. The network delivered the expensive-looking adaptation of The Alienist, starring Daniel Brühl, Dakota Fanning, and Luke Evans earlier this year. Though the series received a somewhat mixed response from critics, it suggested a turning point for the cable network that came close to putting it in the same conversation as FX, HBO, and the like, as far its ability to produce compelling original series is concerned. If this first trailer is anything to go on, I Am The Night may be the series to make that argument even more convincing.
