News recently broke that Netflix's I Am Not Okay With This would not be returning for a second season, just months after the first premiered to great reception. The series followed Sophia Lillis's Sydney Novak, a seventeen-year-old girl who discovers that she possesses mysterious supernatural abilities not long after her father's suicide.

She befriends a quirky, geeky classmate named Stanley Barber and begins a relationship with him even though she's in love with her best friend Dina. At home, Sydney and her mom aren't on great terms, but she has a great time with her younger brother, Liam. The series left a lot of questions unanswered, and now that a second season isn't happening, fans may never know the truth behind some of these mysteries.

Will Sydney And Her Mom Make Amends?

Maggie and Syd Novak from I Am Not Okay With This

Throughout the first season, one of the main external conflicts Sydney faces is the one with her mom. Maggie Novak is a severe but practical woman who treats Sydney like she isn't human. She doesn't take Sydney's feelings into consideration, which makes her resent her mother.

Sydney feels alienated and alone when she needs maternal support more than ever, but Maggie never yields. Only on a few occasions does she treat Sydney like a person: when she tells her the truth about her father, and towards the end of the season when she softens slightly. But how will she react when she learns what Sydney did to Brad, and will she offer her care and support?

Will Stanley Find Who He's Looking For?

I Am Not Okay With This Sydney and Stanley

Stanley is left heartbroken at the end of the season after Sydney finally tells him that she doesn't like him the way he likes her. His date to the dance certainly wasn't the type of girl he was looking for, and Sydney crushes his hopes.

The two have a great friendship, but it's clear that Stanley wants something more. Obviously, he won't be getting that from Sydney, but if the show had continued for another season, it would be hard to imagine that Stanley gave up his efforts to impress girls so easily. Having a partner at the dance was of high importance to him, after all.

Will Stanley And His Dad Ever Be Okay?

Another problem Stanley faces is the more serious issue of his home life. His father is absent most of the time, and when he returns - unannounced - it's never a pleasant time for either of them.

The first season doesn't have enough time to properly explore this relationship or the character of Stanley's father. However, more history on the Barber family would certainly be interesting and give further insight into why Stanley is the way he is.

How Will Everyone Deal With Brad's Death?

I Am Not Okay With This Brad Death

The series ends right after Sydney flees the scene, and everyone seems to understand that she is responsible for blowing Brad's head off. She runs before anyone can process the event or question her, leaving Dina to stagger over the body in shock.

As she runs away, police cars speed towards the school, but nobody is yet on Sydney's trail. Would she have been questioned by the police? Would her family find out, and how would they react? How would this affect Sydney and Dina's relationship?

How Do Sydney's Powers Work?

One of the biggest mysteries of the show is the origin of Sydney's powers. In the later episodes, many hints are given to suggest that she has inherited these abilities from her father, but a mysterious shadowy figure starts following her around with the intention of taking her under his wing and mentoring her.

As of yet, it's unclear whether her powers are meant to be used for good or evil - or whether this is up to Sydney to decide. She doesn't have much control over them, but it's clear that they are stronger when she's experiencing some kind of powerful emotion - usually anger or anxiety.

Who Was Sydney's Dad, Really?

Early on, viewers learn that Sydney's father committed suicide not long before the events of the show. Sydney resents him for leaving them, but also idolizes him and wants to know more about his past.

Maggie tells her later that he was traumatized by what he saw in the army, but other evidence suggests otherwise. Sydney starts to believe that he possessed the same abilities that she does, and that he never told anyone about them - that he was alone, like her. If even his wife didn't know the truth about him, then who was this man, really, and how are the powers connected to him?

Is Sydney The Only One Of Her Kind?

If Sydney and her father share the same abilities, then surely there are more people out there like them. The shadowy figure seems to support this theory since he isn't Sydney's father - though at first viewers are led to believe that he is.

Sydney feels so alone and hopeless because of the unwanted power she is given, and at the end of the season, she thinks she has nowhere to go. She thinks that she will have to live her life the way her father did - isolated, in hiding. It'd be nice to know she's not actually alone.

Will Sydney And Dina Pursue A Relationship?

I Am Not Okay With This Sydney Novak And Dina Kiss

Sydney seems to have been pining over Dina for some time, but Dina has been oblivious to this attention until Sydney kisses her. At first, Dina is surprised and pulls back. Things get a little awkward between them, but soon, Dina proves that this won't get in the way of their friendship.

Without even knowing what she's getting into, Dina helps Sydney and Stanley throughout the season. In the final episode, at the dance, she reveals that she "didn't hate" the kiss, but before they can continue discussing, Brad whips out Sydney's diary. The two are clearly still best friends, but would they have pursued a romantic relationship? How would Dina feel about Sydney after what she did to Brad?

What Will Happen To Sydney?

If a second season ever got produced, it would likely focus on the fallout of the first season's events. No consequences have yet been meted out, and Sydney hasn't even fully faced what she's done yet.

Would the authorities be on to her, would her friends abandon her, and would her family still want anything to do with her? It's fair to say that everyone has always had a lot more faith in Sydney than she does in herself, so she probably wouldn't be as lonely as she thinks she would be. But if the cops ever questioned her, what would she say?

Who Is The Dark Figure?

I Am Not Okay With This Sydney Novak Shadow Man

A mysterious dark figure starts following Sydney around town early in the season. It's clear that this is some sort of supernatural being when it dissolves into shadow.

At the end of the season, the figure corners Sydney at the tower, speaking in a strange, deep voice. Viewers don't get to see his face or learn anything about the figure except that he wants to help Sydney. Her reaction is mostly one of fear, but the screen cuts to black before viewers can learn anything else.
