Nintendo revealed during its E3 2021 Direct that a playable Guardian is coming to Hyrule Warriors: Age of CalamityThe Battle-Tested Guardian will be part of the Expansion Pass.

It seems that Nintendo has confirmed that the first part of the Age of Calamity Expansion Pass is only adding a single new character. This is disappointing, considering the scope of characters that could be added to the game. The addition of a Guardian is cool, but it would have been a better fit alongside a whole group of new fighters.

The Battle-Tested Guardian was announced during the Age of Calamity segment of Nintendo's E3 Direct, which can be seen on the official Nintendo UK YouTube channel. Players will be able to incinerate enemies with blasts from the Guardian's eye cannon. It will be added in the first wave of the Expansion Pass, which is called Pulse of the Guardians, and will be available on June 18.

It was also revealed that Link will be able to use a Flail as a weapon, which resembles a massive set of nunchaku, while Princess Zelda can ride the Master Cycle into battle. New challenges will be added to the Royal Ancient Lab, new enemy types will be added to the game, and the Apocalyptic difficulty setting will be included. Nintendo also revealed that the second DLC wave for Age of Calamity's Expansion Pass is called Guardian of Remembrance and it will be released in November. Guardian of Remembrance will add new character vignettes, new stages, and new battle skills. It will also "expand the roster", which could also mean that only a single character is coming in the second wave.

The Guardian is an awesome addition to the game. Age of Calamity has done a great job in giving Breath of the Wild fans a chance to experience some of the characters and concepts from the game, as it wouldn't have made sense to play them after Link had awoken from his slumber. Playing as a smaller Guardian might not match up to piloting one of the Divine Beasts, but it should still be fun. It's a shame that more content isn't being added, especially so long after Age of Calamity was originally released, but people who have stuck around in war-torn Hyrule will at least get to trample all over Calamity Ganon's army in style.
