The reveal of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's young Impa as a playable character in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity set the internet on fire, and Nintendo has now revealed even more young versions of fan-favorite characters from Breath of the Wild that will be making their way into the upcoming Hyrule Warriors title. Like Impa, these newly revealed characters show what some of the supporting characters from the latest mainline Zelda game looked like 100 years in the past (although, one of them has notoriously aged backwards).

In another surprise trailer drop from Nintendo, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity was revealed at the beginning of September, confirming that the spin-off in the Legend of Zelda franchise would be actually be a plot-rich prequel to Breath of the Wild. A few weeks later at Tokyo Games Show 2020, Nintendo showed off some of Hyrule Warriors' playable characters, including gameplay footage of Breath of the Wild's Champions in action. Alongside these powerful warriors came the reveal of young Impa as a playable character, which caused the internet to explode with hype for the upcoming title. Now, even more important characters from that pivotal story have been shown to play vital roles in Age of Calamity's storyline.

Once again, Nintendo has shadow-dropped another trailer for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which featured The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's eccentric Sheikah researchers Robbie and Purah. Robbie and Purah first appeared in the open-world , but they looked much different than they did in today's trailer. It remains unknown whether either of them will be playable characters in Age of Calamity as today's trailer was strictly cinematic, but one playable character has yet to be revealed. However, it would make sense that the researchers wouldn't be joining the fight although many players have expressed interest in a playable Purah character.

In BOTW, both Robbie and Purah are met with very small statures. Purah explains that her newfound appearance is the product of an experiment gone awry, while players are left assume that Robbie has always had a smaller stature that carried over into his old age. Today's trailer also revealed what each of these characters looked like 100 years before Link awakens from the Shrine of Resurrection. While Purah appears older than she did in BOTW, players now see her as a young adult instead of a child. Robbie, on the other hand, is a youthful, taller version of himself which is a stark contrast to his miniature and decrepit body in Breath of the Wild.

Once again, the internet can't help but gush over Hyrule Warrior: Age of Calamity's new and old characters. Both their designs and over-the-top personalities are exactly what players expected from these characters, and Nintendo has succeeded in delivering on these expectations. With more than a month to go before Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity lands on the Nintendo Switch, these surprise Breath of the Wild character reveals continue to raise the level of series fan hype for the stroy-focused hack and slasher.
