Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will be getting a 50-minute stream at the Tokyo Game Show this weekend. This will be the first new footage of the next game in the Legend of Zelda franchise since its announcement trailer was released last week.

So far, there is relatively little known about Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Its announcement trailer from Nintendo came as a bolt out of the blue. It had been assumed up until its reveal that the next game released in the series would be The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. This assumption, however, was wrong, with Hyrule Warriors: The Age of Calamity set for a November 2020 release. A prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it will be set 100 years before the events of its predecessor, when the destruction wrought by Calamity Ganon takes place.

In a tweet translated by Twitter user PushDustInGame City Japan has revealed that as part of the Tokyo Game Show Nintendo will be debuting nearly a full hour stream of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. It is expected that a lot of new information will become available during the 50-minute stream, including character introductions from the development team and examples of the gameplay. The new footage for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity may end up being the most significant showcase of the game before its release this November. It's scheduled to begin at 9 AM EST on Saturday, September 26th.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity promises to give the player a deeper insight into the events that led to the demise of Hyrule seen in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, as well as more back story into the Champions and the King of Hyrule. In a first for the Zelda series, Link will not be the only playable character. In order to defeat the hordes of Ganon’s minions, which will include Lynels and Bokoblins, players will be able to take control of Princess Zelda herself as well as other figures from the franchise in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. The opening up of new playable characters has also meant that a multiplayer local co-op mode will be available to defeat Ganon and his masses. This is a welcome change from the usual solo gameplay associated with the franchise. It will be interesting to see what other new and exciting features will come to light during the stream at the Tokyo Game Show this weekend.

The Legend of Zelda series is a staple in Nintendo’s history, and it will be celebrating its 35th anniversary next year. Much like the release of Nintendo’s Super Mario 3D All Stars this year to celebrate Mario’s anniversary, recent rumblings for Nintendo's plans during The Legend of Zelda's 35th anniversary year include trademark listings for toys and clothing becoming available in the year 2021. It is fair to presume that Nintendo will be sharing much more from Hyrule and its heroes over the next 12 months, and that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is only just the beginning.
