Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Hunters season 2, episode 5!

Hunters is all about Nazis, and one of the show's action scenes copies a horrifying moment from Inglourious Basterds, the Quentin Tarantino film that is also full of Nazi-killing characters. Hunters and Inglourious Basterds share very similar stories and tones, with both projects focusing on vengeful Jews seeking revenge against the Nazis. Due to their many comparisons, it's not surprising that Hunters would reference Inglourious Basterds, with Hunters season 2, episode 5 "Blutsbande" taking inspiration from one of the film's most iconic scenes.

At the end of episode 5, Jonah, Millie, Chava, and Sister Harriet have managed to track down a small farmhouse that they believe contains their kidnapped friend, Clara, as well as several Nazis. Once the group cautiously enters the building, they are greeted with an empty house, only occupied by an overflowing glass of milk. Unknown to the cast of Hunters season 2, Clara and the Nazis are hiding below the floorboards. Then, the Inglourious Basterds homage occurs, with both groups firing blindly through the floorboards.

Hunters Season 2 Features A Nod To Inglourious Basterds’ Opening Milk Scene

The milk in Hunters season 2 episode 5

The final action sequence in Hunters season 2, episode 5 is a pretty clear nod to Inglourious Basterds' opening scene. The biggest hint at this is the overflowing milk glass. In Inglourious Basterds, the opening sequence takes place at a dairy farm, with Nazi Colonel Hans Landa arriving at the LaPadite farm in order to hunt down a family of Jews. Before massacring the family, Landa requests a glass of milk, which is clearly mirrored by the drink in Hunters.

In Hunters, the dripping milk pours through the floorboards in order to reveal Nazi members of the Fourth Reich silently awaiting the arrival of the Nazi hunters. Similarly, during Hans Landa's conversation with Pierre LaPadite in Inglourious Basterds, the camera pans down to reveal the Jewish family hiding under the floor. Landa then brings his Nazi soldiers into the house and instructs them to blindly fire through the floor, killing almost everyone. Hunters makes the homage even more obvious by having the Nazis fire up through the floor, with the hunters returning fire.

How Hunters Flips Inglourious Basterds' Nazi Scene

Hans Landa interrogates a farmer in Inglourious Basterds

While Hunters season 2 does lift its episode 5 ending from Inglourious Basterds, it actually flips some key elements. The biggest of these is that in Hunters, the Nazis with guns are below the floorboards, while in Inglourious Basterds, the Nazis with guns are above the floorboards. Hans Landa's terrifying opening scene in Inglourious Basterds is also different because it gives the Nazis more power. There, the Nazis are the only ones with guns, while in Hunters both groups are well-armed.

Hunters, as the title implies, also flips who is being hunted. In Inglourious Basterds, the Nazis show up at the dairy farm hunting the Jewish family, with the film taking place in the midst of World War II. Hunters season 2, episode 5, on the other hand, takes place well after WWII, with the main cast of Jewish characters being the ones that are doing the hunting. The Nazis are forced to hide in the farmhouse, awaiting the hunters' arrival. These few changes are what elevate Hunters season 2's Inglourious Basterds scene from a rip-off to a fantastic homage.
