WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for Hunters' season 2 finale!Jonah and his associates are able to foil the plans of Hitler, Eva, and Travis in Hunters’ season 2 ending, but the finale still suggests their Nazi-hunting work isn’t complete. Hunters season 2 continues the title team’s work of tracking down Nazis who have evaded justice, with Jonah, Millie, and Ruth’s sister Chava leading the group through Argentina on the most daring hunt of all. Throughout the series’ final season, the Nazi hunters track down Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun, who had survived World War II and been forming the “Fourth Reich” in Hunters season 1’s twist ending.

Hunters' series finale finds the group successful in apprehending Hitler, making him stand trial for his heinous crimes, and ensuring that he spends his life behind bars. Before locking Hitler in prison, the hunters also face trouble from Travis Leich, the Neo-Nazi working with Eva on forming the Fourth Reich in America, though he was able to escape Jonah’s grasp to an ambiguous fate. By the end of Hunters season 2, it appeared there were no more leaders in the Nazis’ “Fourth Reich;” Hitler was in prison, Eva was killed by Travis, and Travis dropped off the grid after being shot by Joe. However, their absences don’t mean the Nazis’ plans are dead in Hunters’ season 2 ending.

Nazis Were Still Active At The End Of Hunters Season 2

Hunters Season 2 Ending

The mission of Eva and Hitler in Hunters’ alternate history was still in the works after the Nazis were killed or imprisoned. The “Fourth Reich” may not have had a clear leader, but the Amazon original TV show implies that there are enough old Nazis still in hiding, Neo-Nazis gathered by Travis, and bigots to continue the cruel movement. Additionally, Travis Leich is still alive after Hunters’ season 2 finale, so he would doubtlessly be manipulating the actions of the “Fourth Reich” while still in hiding and healing his wounds.

Hunters’ ending clearly drives this point across during Adolf Hitler’s trial; the old generation of Nazis may be dead, dying, or imprisoned, but evil Neo-Nazis like Travis will continue to take over their work and motivate others through fear and hate. In fact, Travis himself states that he should be the new face and leader of the Fourth Reich in the 2023-ending TV show, as he believes their movement needs a younger voice unburdened by the failures of WWII Nazis like Hitler and Eva. If Hunters season 3 had been renewed, Travis would have been Jonah and the hunters’ first and most dangerous target.

Why The Hunters Will Never Be Able To Retire

Hunters Season 2 Finale Sister Harriet

Since Adolf Hitler is the most notorious Nazi in history, he was a fitting figure for the hunters to bring to justice in the final season. Jonah recruited Hunters’ team for the mission by stipulating that it would be their last; if they got Hitler and took him down, all their prior work and mistakes would have been worth it. Jonah tries sticking to his word in Hunters season 2 by announcing that he retired from hunting Nazis, but Sister Harriet convinces him otherwise. In a persuasive speech, Harriet asks Jonah, “Evil doesn’t retire, so why should we?” Hitler is in prison, but the evil that he spread and enabled is far from gone.

Retiring truly isn’t an option for Hunters’ main characters, as they know the cost of letting hidden Nazis potentially infiltrate the government, hold powerful positions, or band together to begin a “Fourth Reich.” Harriet and Jonah wouldn’t be able to stop hunting while knowing there are still Nazis out there living carefree lives, so they would dedicate the rest of their lives to finding every last Nazi in America. Even if they were to defeat Travis in the future, their work still wouldn’t be done, as Hunters’ ending indicates another Neo-Nazi would simply take his place.
