Warning: SPOILERS for Hunters season 1.
Amazon's Hunters timeline is completely broken and trying to make sense of it actually brings about disturbing implications for some of the characters. Created by David Weil for Amazon Prime Video, Hunters tells the story of a ragtag group of Nazi hunters in New York City in 1977, who are not only trying to deliver justice on the Nazis living in the United States but also trying to thwart a plan by those Nazis to create a Fourth Reich, which involves killing millions of people in America.
This group of people is led by Al Pacino's Meyer Offerman, a Holocaust survivor who also happens to be the grandfather of Jonah Heidelbaum (Logan Lerman) - well, sort of. Meyer Offerman is Jonah's grandfather, but Hunters' ending reveals that Pacino isn't entirely who he says he is. Meyer and Jonah's grandmother, Ruth Heidelbaum, fell in love during World War II, and they ended up together after they were liberated from Auschwitz. But the thing is, the real Meyer died shortly after that. So that means Meyer fathered a daughter with Ruth sometime in 1945 - and that's where the timeline begins to fall apart.
Considering when Auschwitz was liberated, it stands to reason that Ruth gave birth to a daughter in 1946. And since Hunters takes place in 1977 and Jonah is supposed to be 19 years old in season 1, that means, at her oldest, Ruth's daughter was 12 years old when she gave birth to Jonah. Regardless of the fact that it's technically possible for a 12-year-old girl to have a child, it's ludicrous for Hunters to suggest that's what happened to Jonah's mother. Quite frankly, it's disturbing.
Furthermore, Jonah reveals in Hunters season 1, episode 1, shortly after his grandmother's funeral, that his mother had bled out having him, thus suggesting that she passed away in childbirth, which makes her age even more concerning. While the timeline of these events - and the ages of all those in the show - are rather irrelevant to the overarching story, it's difficult to look past knowing that, in order for everything to make sense, Hunters should take place sometime in the late 1980s or 1990s.
Of course, at its core, Hunters is really about hunting Nazis, and based on how season 1 ends, there will be plenty of that in season 2 and beyond. And now that Jonah knows the truth about his family, perhaps Hunters season 2 will explore what really happened to everyone - though it'll be difficult for him to uncover those details since most - if not all - of those characters are now dead.
