2014 has been a strong year for young adult sci-fi/fantasy novel adaptations, with both Divergent and The Maze Runner enjoying enough success at the box office to warrant sequels. Since Twilight and Harry Potter came to their respective conclusions, the top dog of this genre has been The Hunger Games, the penultimate chapter of which is set for release this fall.

The titular Hunger Games themselves will no longer be part of the narrative formula in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 and Part 2, since Catching Fire ended with Katniss Everdeen's dramatic escape from the Arena, after which she and several of her friends were sent to join the rebel forces in District 13. Unfortunately, those rebel forces don't include Peeta Mellark or Johanna Mason, both of whom have been taken prisoner by the Capitol.

Between the surviving tributes and all of the other players in the political kettle that is Panem, there are a lot of supporting characters to keep track of in The Hunger Games. Luckily Lionsgate has graced fans (and casual viewers) with a reminder in the form of a new set of character images that were posted on the official Hunger Games Instagram, featuring both familiar faces from the previous movies and newcomers who will be introduced in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1.

Beetee, Haymitch, Effie, Finnick, Gale, Plutarch Heavensbee and Caesar Flickerman are all members of the returning cast, while the unfamiliar faces above are (in order) propo cameraman Pollux (Elden Henson), production assistant Messalla (Evan Ross), propo director Cressida (Natalie Dormer), Pollux's brother Castor (Wes Chatham) and President Alma Coin's right hand man, Boggs (Mahershala Ali).

These characters can be expected to play a prominent role in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, since the film will see Katniss (reluctantly) becoming the symbol of the revolution and filming propaganda on the battlefield in order to be an inspiration for the rebel forces. Whereas Catching Fire saw Katniss making a Faustian bargain with President Snow to endorse the Capitol, the next film in the series will see her making a similar pact with Coin in order to protect her loved ones.

With their gladiatorial central premise, The Hunger Games movies already have a pretty impressive body count, and it's only likely to climb even higher as Katniss and her allies go to war against the Capitol. Bearing in mind that director Francis Lawrence and screenwriters Danny Strong (The Butler) and Peter Craig (The Town) could potentially deviate from the plot of Suzanne Collins' final book in the trilogy, which of the characters above do you think will manage to survive until the end of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2?

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 arrives in theaters on November 21st, 2014.
