The Quarter Quell is nearly upon us, as the young survivors of last year's Hunger Games tournament reconvene for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The first adaptation from Suzanne Collins' young adult novel series smoothly took the torch from Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 to become Lionsgate's new tentpole franchise (at least until the studio can find a way to reboot Twilight), with an impressive box office performance and plenty of hype already generated for the sequel.
To tease the arrival of Catching Fire in theaters this fall, Lionsgate has released a third trailer for the film that once again focuses on the revolution that has been stirred by Katniss and Peeta's survival of their first Hunger Games tournament, and which also touches on the potential political implications of Katniss' love triangle with Peeta and her old hunting buddy Gale.
Those who were hungry to see more from Catching Fire will probably be left feeling a little unfulfilled by the end of this trailer, since it's essentially a slightly shorter version of the full trailer that was revealed at Comic-Con earlier this summer. There's no new footage revealed, so unless you're trying to spread the love of The Hunger Games to a friend with a poor attention span, it's probably best to stick with the Comic-Con trailer.
Perhaps more interesting than what's been shown in the trailers for Catching Fire is what hasn't been shown: namely, footage from the 75th Hunger Games. Aside from clips of the new contenders - who have been selected from a pool of past victors - in the training grounds and standing on their podiums ready to enter the fray, Lionsgate is being very coy about showing anything that takes place after the whistle blows. In a way this is actually refreshing in an age where trailers are prone to giving away the plot of the entire movie.
Do you like this slightly more concise version of the Comic-Con trailer, or do you wish that we could have had something new?
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be in theaters on November 22, 2013.
