Crush, the new LGBT movie streaming on Hulu, is a refreshing and poignant coming-of-age story about the perils and pleasures associated with young love. Its main character, Paige, begins the movie in pursuit of one crush, only to find that her feelings are going in some unexpected directions.

Though most of the cast is, obviously, quite young, they have already shown, both in this movie and in their other screen outings, just how talented they are. Thus, it’s worth taking a look at the other movies and TV shows where the cast of Crush have appeared.

Rowan Blanchard plays Paige, the center of the story. Though Blanchard is still quite young, she has already managed to land several notable roles. She is most well-known for appearing in Girl Meets World, the spinoff and sequel to the hit 1990s sitcom Boy Meets World as the main character Riley Matthews.

She has also appeared in a number of other notable roles, including turns in both The Goldbergs and in the series Snowpiercer. She brings considerable charisma and power to her role as Paige.

Auliʻi Cravalho - Moana (2016)

Moana

Though Paige is the center of the story in Crush, Auli’i Cravalho plays AJ, one of the crushes of the title. Though she has just begun her career in Hollywood, she has already made quite a splash.

She is best known for providing the voice of the character Moana in the movie of the same title. Indeed, it is precisely because of her dynamic vocal performance that the film is regarded as one of the best Disney movies of the 2010s.

Tyler Alvarez - Every Witch Way (2014-2015)

One of the key things that makes Crush such an endearing movie is its ability to capture many different types of characters. Even those who aren’t necessarily central to Paige’s journey nevertheless manage to feel real and complex. This includes Dillon, Paige’s best friend.

The character’s dynamism stems in large part from the performance of Tyler Alvarez, who has been in a number of TV series, including Every Witch Way, a telenovela-style sitcom that aired on Nickelodeon.

Teala Dunn - Are We There Yet (2010-2013)

TBS as a network is notable for creating several unique sitcoms, most of which manage to do some interesting things with the established conventions of the genre. This includes Are We There Yet, which focuses on a blended family as they contend with the various complexities and challenges of everyday life.

Tesla Dunn, who plays the character of class presidential candidate Stacey in Crush, appears in the series as the character Lindsey Kingston-Persons. She was the second person to have played the role in the series.

Aasif Mandvi - The Daily Show (1996-present)

Even though Crush is very focused on the lives and relationships of its teen characters, it also has its fair share of adults in the cast. These include Aasif Mandvi, who plays the track coach (he ultimately assigns Paige a mentor who becomes her crush).

Mandvi has had a very eclectic career in Hollywood, appearing in a number of movies and TV series. However, he is probably best known to most audiences for serving as a correspondent for The Daily Show–one of the best comedic news shows–for over a decade.

Michelle Buteau - The Circle (2020-present)

The Circle Michelle Buteau

Every great movie focusing on the high school experience has to have a principal. Whether as heroes or as villains, the principal is a key element of this particular genre, and Crush is no exception. In this case, the principal is played by Michelle Buteau.

Buteau has established quite a reputation as a standup comedian, but she has been especially successful as a host on television. In particular, she is noted for being the current host of the series The Circle, which is a reality competition series airing on Netflix.

Megan Mullally - Will & Grace (1998-2006; 2017-2020)

Megan Mullally is no stranger to the world of LGBTQ+ representation. In fact, she was one of the key cast members of Will & Grace, arguably one of the best series focusing on LGBTQ+ people to have ever aired on television.

She played the character of Karen Walker, the wise-cracking assistant to Grace. Though originally a secondary character, she soon proved she had what it took to be a main focus of stories in her own right. In Crush she plays Paige’s mother.

Isabella Ferreira - Love, Victor (2020-present)

Hulu's Love, Victor is another notable example of a positive representation of the LGBTQ+ community in television. Though it focuses largely on the title character as he comes to terms with his sexuality and tries to find love (while also dealing with the usual stresses of high school), Isabella Ferreira often steals the show as his sister, Pilar.

She is similarly charismatic in Crush, in which she plays the character of  Gabriela Campos, Paige’s other crush and AJ's twin sister.

AMC's Better Call Saul is widely regarded as one of the best crime dramas of the 2010s. In part, this stems from its association with Breaking Bad, but it also stands on its own. Like its predecessor, it also makes the most out of even characters that appear only briefly.

Though he’s only in one episode, Rico Paris makes quite an impression as Franklyn Pickett. In Crush, he plays the character of Tim.

Addie Weyrich - The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017-present)

Throughout its several, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has shown that it has what it takes to be one of Amazon’s best shows. Though obviously, the title character is a major part of its appeal, like other shows it manages to make the most out of its characters, even those that only appear briefly.

Addie Weyrich is a relative newcomer to Hollywood, but she does appear in an episode of Maisel. In Crush, she plays the character of Chantal.
