Outside of miniseries, TV shows that end up being short are usually the victim of not having a large enough viewing audience to stick around. Hannibal falls into that category but there's no doubt that the show has a passionate following, with fans still talking about it consistently years after it ended.

Attempts at films and shows with Hannibal Lecter have been mixed after The Silence of the Lambs but Hannibal is just as good. Mads Mikkelsen is riveting as the titular character and his relationship with Will Graham is incredibly well-written. With just 36 episodes, intense cliffhangers, and a gripping story, Hannibal is easy to binge.

After the success of shows like American Horror Story, the idea of anthology series became more and more popular. A strong one that recently started is Cruel Summer and the first season hooked viewers with a chilling story. It follows two teenage girls throughout 1993, 1994, and 1995.

One is a popular teen who goes missing, the other is an awkward outcast who seemingly takes her place, and drama unfolds when the first returns as accusations abound that change everything. Cruel Summer benefitted from a talented young cast, a great soundtrack, and tense week-to-week drama.

FX's deal with Hulu means that the network's best shows are all available on the streaming service, which is welcome because FX indeed has some of the top TV series of the past few years. Among those is Pose, which is set in the late '80s and early '90s, focusing on drag ball culture, the LGBTQ+ community, and the AIDS crisis, among other things.

Through three seasons, there aren't even 30 episodes of Pose, yet this is more about quality than quantity. The show was a huge critical success, being nominated (and winning) several major awards, while also making history as Michaela Jaé Rodriguez became the first trans actress nominated for the Outstanding Lead Actress Emmy.

Cloak & Dagger (2018-2019)

The second show included to feature Olivia Holt (Cruel Summer), Cloak & Dagger is actually technically set in the MCU. Although it's not directly interconnected like the Disney+ shows, it is part of the MCU in the same way that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Jessica Jones are.

The series follows Tandy and Tyrone, two teens with superpowers who form a team to stop awful things from happening in New Orleans. Along with great action, Cloak & Dagger hits on themes of race, class status, and more. There are only two seasons but if you want more of Tandy and Tyrone, you can see them in another short show, The Runaways, where they made a guest appearance.

Atlanta (2016-Present)

The wait for new episodes of Atlanta seems to always be lengthy but always ends up being worth it. From the mind of the multi-talented Donald Glover, the show follows his character Earn as he becomes the manager for his cousin's rap career.

The series is a comedy but as it goes on, things become surreal. Atlanta examines racism, existentialism, and so many other uncomfortable themes. Things even take a horror route with episodes like the iconic "Teddy Perkins." Season 3 is currently airing, with a final fourth coming later in 2022.
