Hulu wants you to vote for its first-ever adult animation awards. The home to hit original content, such as The Handmaid’s Tale, Pen15, Ramy, and High Fidelity, Hulu remains one of the top streaming services for viewers to indulge in adult animation content. Toting an impressive catalog of adult animation, popular titles on Hulu include Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, Rick and Morty, The Simpsons, and more.
Amid coronavirus concerns, staple award shows are facing an uncertain future with numerous delays, cancellations, and changing guidelines. While it remains to be seen how the Oscars, the Emmys, and MTV Movie & TV Awards will configure broadcasts, Hulu has opted to grant fans of adult animation a new avenue to crown favorites. Recently, the streaming service launched two original adult animated shows, with the premieres of Crossing Swords and Solar Opposites - which became Hulu’s most-watched original comedy premiere. Now, Hulu has created a platform for fans to cast votes for titles in the adult animation genre.
Today, Hulu unveiled the inaugural HAHA awards (Hilarious Animated Hulu Awards). Voting is open to both Hulu subscribers and non-subscribers on the official HAHA website or Hulu's Twitter and runs from July 8 to July 19. Winners will be announced on July 23. The HAHAs will honor 10 unique categories such as Best Hangover Performance, Best Talking Pet, Most Insulting Insult, and lots more. Check out Hulu’s trailer of nominees below:
Nominees from the categories are pulled from acclaimed animated series such as The Simpsons, Futurama, King of the Hill, and American Dad. Vice President of Hulu Marketing, Ryan Crosby, expressed excitement at the concept of fans of animation having an opportunity to handpick their favorites and stated, “Frame by frame, adult animation captures the most iconic characters, funniest catchphrases, and real life storylines, so we wanted to recognize some of the industry’s very best in a way that only Hulu could.”
Almost 40 percent of Hulu subscribers tune in to adult cartoons every month, which indicates there could be a large pool of voters to select the best of adult animation. For over three decades, the genre has remained influential to generations and has produced some of the longest-running series in television history, most notably The Simpsons. It's a massive area of television that's rarely honored at standard Hollywood award shows, so it's nice to see Hulu giving animated series their due. This is especially relevant now, as animation has evolved into telling stories often just as serious as those told in live-action. While Hulu’s adult animation awards may not tote the sophistication of the Oscars, the HAHAs will provide a delightful avenue for fans to honor their favorites.
