The Hulk is one of the most indestructible forces in the Marvel Universe, but the hero has stood little chance against Black Bolt's powerful sonic scream, including a meeting that left him severely banged up. In a classic fight between Hulk and Black Bolt, the Inhuman King took down the Jade Giant with his voice, leaving the longtime Avenger literally too stunned to speak as he collapsed due to the after-effects of the blast.
The Hulk has earned his title as one of Marvel's strongest heroes, as the Gamma-powered monster has become a force of pure power. But, the Hulk isn't just his strength but has some incredible defensive prowess, including a healing factor, near-impenetrable skin, and a resolve to take a beating that would kill most other heroes. However, the Inhuman Black Bolt has proven to be an excellent Hulk-stopper with his powerful scream, which he can summon simply by speaking. While the pair have fought a handful of times, Black Bolt's power advantage was never more apparent than when he singlehandedly stopped a raging Hulk with one word.
In Hulk #175 by Roy Thomas, Herb Trimpe, Jack Abel, Petra Goldberg, and Artie Simek from Marvel Comics, the Jade Giant crashlands in the secret Inhuman home of Attilan. After an inital fight with Black Bolt, the Hulk eventually settles down and reverts to his Bruce Banner form. However, when a group of Inhumans notice the human walking around Attilan, their attack ends up reawakening the Hulk. With the Hulk ripping through Attilan, Black Bolt intervenes, whispering for the first time in months, which knocks the monster down. To the surprise of the everyone, Hulk gets up from the rubble, but with the sonic scream still pulsing in his ears, he passes out - allowing the Inhumans to immediately send him off-planet.
The scary thing about Black Bolt's sonic scream, is the word he chooses to use is never revealed, as it's likely he whispered so quietly that it couldn't be fully understood. Still, that proved to be enough to take down the Hulk - albeit, the fight nearly continued before the Hulk's collapse.
In most of Black Bolt's earliest stories, he pulled off victories against the Hulk in their fights. However, the Hulk would finally get revenge on Blackagar Boltagon when he returned from Earth during World War Hulk from Marvel Comics, where he finally made his way through a moon-shattering scream to take down the Inhuman leader. But, surprisingly, Black Bolt seems to have the advantage in their overall head-to-head match ups, including the fight above. If their battles show anything, it's that Black Bolt shouldn't be underestimated, as he can take down pretty much any opponent, including the Hulk, with a single scream.
