Warning! Spoilers ahead for Hulk #5

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Hulk, Bruce Banner and the new Starship Hulk are facing darker versions of Abomination that go way beyond the one seen in the MCU. Venturing into a pocket dimension, Hulk has discovered an alternate reality where his gamma experiment was a success. However, the world actually became far worse, displaying a cruel brutality which includes these new Abominations.

In previous issues of Hulk from Donny Cates and Ryan Ottley, it was revealed that Bruce Banner found a means to split his psyche while using new technologies to turn his greener and stronger half into something he could control. Creating a ship's bridge in his mind where he sits as captain, Banner can now command this new form for the Hulk who's become a starship, manually increasing his rage and using it as fuel. Leaving the primary Earth-616 universe behind, the Starship Hulk found himself in a new dimension where Banner never became the Hulk. Instead, his gamma project was a success and was taken by the American government. As such, the United States became an oppressive empire under the command of President Ross, one that simply disposed of any mutated Hulk-like creations that emerged from their gamma missile fallout, dumping them in the same interdimensional void from which the Starship Hulk came from. Learning that they're referred to as "Abominations," Banner takes massive offense in past issues.

While the original Abomination Emil Blonsky isn't in the new Hulk #5, the versions featured are arguably much worse. Having already unleashed the horrifying Spider-Hulk to try and take down this new Banner, Ross reveals that a scientist (named Reed Richards) helped the government figure out how to harness the most powerful and biggest Abominations, arming them with heavy ordinance and weaponry not unlike Attack on Titan's Pieck Finger as the Cart Titan. As such, they certainly seem to be a more formidable force for the Hulk when compared to the 616 or MCU's Abomination.

Hulk-Faces-President-Ross'-New-Abominations

Having already been pushed to his limits by Banner, it's unclear what will happen to the Hulk as he's overtaken by these armed and dangerous Abominations. The issue does tease that the Jade Giant is about to undergo a dark new transformation after exceeding the multiple levels of anger Banner had established. Either way, Ross's role in Blonsky's MCU transformation into the Abomination seems tame compared to what he's done with these new iterations.

Having already taken down Ross's gamma-powered military and the Spider-Hulk, it seems as though the horde of armed Abominations will be the next gauntlet Banner will need to face in this dark new world. However, whatever Hulk is in danger of becoming could be even worse than anything Ross can throw at him, having reached a new threshold of anger Banner has seemingly never accessed before. Fans will just have to wait and see as Hulk continues from Marvel Comics.
