In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Hulk is as powerful as Bruce Banner is lovable. But the Hulk and Bruce come as a package deal, and some heroes have been better at accepting that than others.

In a perfect world, everyone would want to be friends with Bruce — and not just to ensnare the incredible abilities of his big green alter ego. Here are just a few of the MCU's most well-known faces and their feelings about Bruce and "the other guy".

Despise: Dr. Strange

Dr Strange in MCU

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Dr. Strange is very helpful to Bruce (who falls through the ceiling of the Sanctum Sanctorum in Avengers: Infinity War). But just because the good doctor assists Bruce doesn't mean he's overly fond of working with the guy. Bruce and the Hulk tend to bring destruction with them (including to the Sanctum Sanctorum), and Dr. Strange has enough going on in protecting the world from magical and mysterious threats without adding an emotionally unstable superhuman to the mix.

Love: Valkyrie

Thor Ragnarok's Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie

ThorRagnarok makes it very clear that Valkyrie has a soft spot for the big green guy. Valkyrie isn't even a big Bruce fan who puts up with the Hulk because she has to; she genuinely likes him. He's strong and effective, and an overall winner. She has no problem partnering up with Mr. Super-Strength when the time calls for it. Valkyrie is about success and where she's concerned, the Hulk is very helpful when it comes to beating bad guys.

Despise: Quicksilver

Scarlet Witch Quicksilver

Quicksilver had very little time to get to know or work well with anyone (as he only appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron), but it never looked like he and the Hulk were going to be buddies. Quicksilver moves a bit too fast for most people, but certainly too fast for Bruce.

They could never stand back-to-back to fight off the threat. Add to that Quicksilver's attitude, and there's very little to endear him to Bruce either. Quicksilver would never have had the patience to deal with the Hulk or work effectively with him if time demanded it.

Love: Rocket

Rocket Groot

One would assume that Rocket, with his special sarcasm and attitude, wouldn't warm up to anyone, but the Guardian seems to have had a soft spot for the big green guy. It's adorable to watch Rocket and "Professor" Hulk ride in the back of a pickup truck to go talk Thor out of hiding in New Asgard. Bruce's mild manners and kindness played against Rocket's temper and straightforwardness make them very successful on their diplomatic mission. Match Bruce's scientific knowledge to Rocket's engineering know-how and it makes sense that they'd make a good team.

Despise: Star Lord

Sure, Star Lord and the Hulk get very little time together in The Avengers films, but it's not hard to guess how Star Lord would feel about the big green guy. Star Lord is never a huge fan of anyone who can show him up at anything, and the Hulk's strength could surely best him. Add that to the fact Rocket likes the Hulk better than Star Lord, and you've already set up all sorts of problems for Quill to get over before he can work well with Bruce or his super-strong alter ego.

Love: Thor

Thor and Bruce Banner Hulk in Thor Ragnarok

Sure, it takes a little time for the pair to get used to each other, but just seeing the grin on Thor's face when he recognizes Bruce in the Grandmaster's arena really says it all. Furthermore, Bruce is one of the heroes who makes the trek to help get Thor out of his depressive funk in Avengers: Infinity War, showing that their relationship is clearly a positive one, on the battlefield and off. Thor's humor and his usually positive attitude are also a great balance for the self-deprecating Bruce Banner.

Despise: Hawkeye

The fact that Hawkeye is the most important person in Natasha Romanoff's life was always going to complicate his relationship with the Hulk. In his desperation to keep both Nat and his own family safe, Hawkeye is wary of the big green secret weapon.

Love: Iron Man

Tony Stark and Bruce Banner in The Avengers

"Science Bros" are forever, and that means that Iron Man would always be willing to team up with the Hulk. The pair get to banter at an intellectual level during their off-hours as well as complement one another's strengths in the field (strength vs. precision). While the Hulkbuster Armor may seem like Tony is worried about the Hulk, it's really so that his friend Bruce will always know that the Hulk can be subdued if he has to be. After all, Bruce understands the dangers of his own alter ego more than anyone.

Despise - Nick Fury

Bruce has never appreciated the fact that Nick Fury kept tabs on him or that he brought him in to join the Avengers in the first place. On the flip side, Fury has never appreciated the fact that Bruce doesn't want to buddy up on the Helicarrier or come out of hiding. Fury understands the power the Hulk can bring to his team of superheroes, but Bruce/Hulk certainly adds to the headache that Fury is so often forced to fight on his own team.

Love - Black Widow

The Black Widow may have feared for her life in the first Avengers film, but she learns to appreciate both the Hulk's and Bruce Banner's abilities. By the time all our heroes appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Black Widow is the best possible partner for Mr. Banner. She is able to communicate and placate him when the need arises. Communication is what a good team is all about.
