The new Hulk Hogan biopic in the works that will star Chris Hemsworth as the wrestling legend is currently in the scripting stage. Netflix has the exclusive life rights to the story, and will have Terry Gene Bollea, aka Hulk Hogan, as the consultant.

The film will feature Hogan’s early years in the sport, starting with his 1970s stint with the Florida wrestling circuit and rising to the point where he was the face of the World Wrestling Federation during the 1980s. Hogan became a veritable superhero in the WWF, inspiring the term “Hulkamania” in 1984 and prompting his fans to call themselves "Hulkamaniacs." Fans were so excited at the possibilities of casting Hemsworth as Hogan they posted fan art depicting how the transformation could look. Not everyone is thrilled with Hemsworth's casting, though. WWE legend The Iron Sheik threatened to inflict upon the Thor star an offensive move called a suplex, a throw that will lift him up like a hammer and slam him on his back, if he takes the part.

Hemsworth isn't worried. He's bulked up enough to personify the Viking superhero Thor. If the Incredible Hulk can beat Hulk Hogan in the ring, Hemsworth should have no worries about The Iron Sheik's protests. Hemsworth is excited about being able to embody Hogan's massive personality. "Look, I haven't read a script yet, Hemsworth told Screen Rant during an interview about the upcoming film Extraction. "I know it's being written now and worked on. I know very little about that. It's sort of in the process now."

Hogan just might be the most legendary professional wrestler of all time and the actor is thrilled to be part of the scene Hulk created. "I'm just fascinated by that world, and I think they're pretty keen to show a side of the world that people haven't seen before," Hemsworth said. "I'm as intrigued as you are." The screenplay is being written by Scott Silver and John Pollono. The film will be directed by Todd Phillips (War Dogs, The Hangover). Hulk thinks Hemsworth just might win an Academy Award for the part.

Hogan's fame went beyond the wrestling world. He was one of wrestling's major crossover stars during the mid-1980s to the early-1990s, the heyday of the WWF, now known as the WWE. Hulkamania put Hogan as the undisputed headliner at WrestleMania matches, over fan favorites like Andre the Giant, who went on to act in the film Princess Bride, and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, who chewed gum and kicked ass in John Carpenter's 1988 horror science fiction classic They Live. Hogan left the WWF in 1994 for WCW and spearheaded the late-1990s wrestling boom. There might be a more fascinating sequel in the future featuring Hulk's stint as Joe Fixit, a mob enforcer working in Las Vegas.
