Warning! Spoiler for Maestro #5 below

The Hulk's effort to take the throne of a future dystopian reality ended with the betrayal and murder of Hercules. Maestro had thought that he took down the powerful Avenger, but in the final issue of the future Hulk's miniseries shows that killing a God isn't the easiest task.

In the previous issue of Maestro by Peter David, Dale Keown, German Peralta, Jesus Aburtov, and VC's Ariana Maher, the Hulk and Hercules had an epic fight that ended with the Jade Giant ultimately admitting defeat. However, losing was part of Hulk's plan as he used the supervillain Vapor to kill Hercules in his effort to become the new leader of Dystopia. In Maestro #5, it's revealed that Maestro's takeover attempt wasn't as seamless as he hoped it would be - as Hercules has come back with fiery new powers.

The new comic opens with Hulk letting the people of Dystopia know that Hercules gave it his all to help them survive. As Hercules's body is ceremoniously burned on a stake, Maestro, not wasting any time whatsoever, tells them that he will lead them as the new Maestro. His coup doesn't fly with citizens, who wonder why the stranger should automatically gain power - as they suggest a more democratic process in electing a new leader. Maestro immediately objects and sends his Dogs of War to attack the citizens. A giant fight breaks out and a fiery Hercules rises from the stake and attacks Maestro.

Hercules Maestro

Hercules reveals that Hades did him a favor allowing him to wreak vengeance after his death, as he destroys the Maestro's War Dogs before delivering some seriously massive blows to the future Hulk. With his power upgrade, Hercules is about to kill Maestro before a minister from Dystopia picks up the weapon built by Rick Jones to kill Maestro (which was stolen) and blasts a hole through Hercules, killing him again, before bowing down to the Hulk.

In Marvel Comics, there are few characters stronger than Hercules. In this case, with Hades essentially granting him the spirit of vengeance to take down Maestro, the character became even more powerful than he was before his death. Unfortunately, Maestro managed to sway the mind of the minister who found the gun necessary to take Hercules down again - otherwise, it looked like Hercules was going to stop the future Hulk for good. Maestro got extremely lucky that he was the one who survived the battle.
