Both in comics and on the big screen, Hulk fans have seen the green Goliath face off against various gods on many, many occasions. The dozen-plus fights he's had with Thor in the comics almost inevitably end in some sort of a stalemate. And the two times they've faced off in the MCU - in Avengers and Thor: Ragnarok - were both stopped before a definitive winner could be determined (the former sees a S.H.I.E.L.D. fighter jet drawing Hulk away from the fight, and the latter prematurely ended by the Grandmaster activating Thor's obedience disc). But in The Incredible Hulk 107: Warbound, Hulk proves that he's undeniably capable of laying the smack down on an actual deity.

Set during the World War Hulk arc, Hulk is on a rampage to seek revenge against the Illuminati, who he blames for the death of his pregnant wife on the planet Sakaar at the end of the Planet Hulk saga. A giant hologram of Hulk holding Black Bolt's unconscious, bloodied body appears in Manhattan, Hulk tells the city to evacuate while demanding to see Mr. Fantastic, Iron Man and Doctor Strange. If they're not there in 24 hours, Hulk threatens, he'll do to the entire planet what he did to Black Bolt.

Hercules sees this, and along with Amadeus Cho, Angel, and Namora travels to the city to try to deescalate the situation. But Hulk is having none of it. While he's able to brush away most of them, Hercules is actually able to stand his ground against the Hulk's crushing blows for a bit and gets in a good punch himself, momentarily stunning the Hulk, though not for long. Rising to his feet, Hulk backhands the Son of Zeus, before pummeling the Greek god into submission as he begs Hulk to stop, trying to convince him that they're there to help. Namora covers her eyes, unable to watch any more of the brutal beating. The issue ends with Hulk noticing the crowd that had formed and Hercules struggling to say that they're all there to help him... if he'll let them.

The fallout from the Planet Hulk arc echoed throughout every corner of the Marvel comics universe, impacting most major titles in its aftermath. Besides stopping at the moon to put a beat down on Black Bolt on his way back to Earth, various World War Hulk stories see an epic fight with Iron Man in his Hulk-Buster suit that destroys Stark Tower, Hulk smashing Wolverine's skull until his brain is basically jelly, and much, much more. It was one of the more epic Marvel events in recent memory.

And with this issue showing that Hulk, when mad enough, can take down an actual god, it's no wonder that MCU Loki was so scared when he saw the not-so-jolly- green giant show up in Ragnarok. His simply just getting rag-dolled in Avengers probably felt like a massage compared to what Hulk did to Hercules.
