Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) almost had a more meaningful reunion in Avengers: Infinity War. Back in early 2018, Infinity War seemed like the biggest thing that would ever hit the MCU. While Avengers: Endgame changed that a year later, Infinity War still made quite the impact when it arrived in theaters, largely thanks to its massive cast. The film brought nearly every MCU hero together to stop the Mad Titan Thanos' (Josh Brolin) quest to gather all the Infinity Stones and destroy half of all life. There was a great deal of anticipation at seeing characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy interact with the Avengers, but fans were also excited to see some smaller reunions.

Among those was that of Bruce and Natasha. 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron established a mutual attraction between the two characters that culminated in a kiss ahead of the final battle. However, Bruce soon jetted off to the far reaches of space (AKA Sakaar), and the two went years without seeing each other. Because of that, fans expected a more heartfelt reunion between Bruce and Natasha in Infinity War. Instead, they exchanged quick hellos upon seeing each other and left it at that. While not everyone was a big fan of the relationship between the two Avengers, people still expected a bit more.

Now it turns out that there was more for Nat and Bruce, it just didn't make it into the film. During a live watch party of Infinity War for ComicBook.com, co-writer Stephen McFeely revealed a more serious catch-up between the two characters was written and shot, but ended up getting cut from the final film. McFeely then added, "As did anything that wasn't on the stone plot," referring to the over-arching plot involving the Infinity Stones.

Considering how action-packed Infinity War turned out to be, this makes a lot of sense. There was hardly enough time for anything that wasn't directly related to the actual Infinity War. As a result, some characters got less screentime, while lots of other ideas got cut entirely. For example, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) was supposed to wear Iron Man's (Robert Downey Jr.) armor at one point, but it never made it into the final film. Bruce and Natasha's full reunion was one of the unlucky scenes, though fans still might have gotten a glimpse of it during Infinity War's trailer.

Considering the slight backlash that stemmed from Bruce and Natasha's relationship, it almost seemed like their brief hellos was Infinity War's way of course-correcting. Many thought the relationship came out of left field and reduced Natasha's character, and some might not have appreciated a longer scene between the two. On the other hand, it would have been nice to get more closure on their dynamic, especially considering Natasha's Endgame fate. It'll be interesting to see if November's Black Widow will choose to acknowledge their relationship in some way, but if not, Age of Ultron might be the only movie to contain actual, proper proof of their short-lived romance.
