Oscar nominee and fan-favorite actor Hugh Jackman rang in the New Year with a frigid-looking dip in the ocean. The 52-year-old has managed to consistently remain in the news over the past year, despite the fact that 2020 wasn’t a particularly busy year for him in terms of major film releases and performances.

Rather than gaining acclaim for his acting skills over the past year, Jackman has kept fans in hysterics over his long-running feud with Ryan Reynolds. The two took things to new levels in 2020, with their well-known social media banter hitting some hilarious new highs. And although the two friends and their comedic rivalry was (and is) well worth discovering, those who are more interested in Jackman’s real acting work were still able to enjoy at least one production. Jackman briefly took on the role of Prince Humperdinck in the quarantine inspired TV mini-series retelling of The Princess Bride, Home Movie: The Princess Bride. It may have only provided a small taste of Jackman’s skills, but 2021 is already shaping up as a good one for the star, with a role in Westworld writer Lisa Joy’s directorial debut, Reminiscence.

Thankfully never one to shy away from social media and keeping fans up to date with his latest goings-on, Jackman kicked off the new year with an Instagram post that saw him head to the beach. The video doesn’t provide the exact location of the deserted-looking stretch of coastline, but the overcast weather and Jackman’s exclamation of “Oooh!” after removing his shirt seem to confirm that it wasn’t typical beach weather. Check out the full video of Jackman’s solo Polar Bear outing below:

At the beginning of the video, when Jackman declares the date and year, he can be seen wearing a Laughing Man sweatshirt. Laughing Man is the star’s brand of coffee, which aims to donate its proceeds to ensuring that fair and ethical workplace practices are maintained for coffee bean farm employees. After a recent battle with Reynolds where consumers were asked to vote between the two, Jackman was crowned the victor. It’s unclear just how cold the water in the above video was, but judging by Jackman’s reaction, perhaps a hot cup of Laughing Man was in order after the frigid looking New Years’ day swim.

January is traditionally a busy time for Polar Bear swimmers, with collections of people all over the world willingly starting off a new year with an ice-cold swim. In Jackman’s case, it’s hard to say where his own plunge took place, though cynics might point out that if there isn’t ice on the water, it couldn’t have been all that cold. Jackman originally hails from Australia and it’s currently summer there, meaning that maybe this Polar Bear dip wasn’t as cold as it seems. Perhaps these sorts of allegations will eventually be brought up by Reynolds, as their rivalry is sure to continue into 2021.
