Netflix’s latest Adam Sandler vehicle comes just in time for All Hallows’ Eve, and Hubie Halloween promises to do its best to make up for the lack of trick or treating this year. The comedy, which drops on October 7, revolves around one man’s attempt to save the despite the kids and adults in the town throwing abuse his way.

Up-and-coming young stars join the cast of comedy legends, and help complete the family friendly fright night. Paris Berelc, Karan Brar, and Noah Schnapp talk to Screen Rant about how their characters intersect and share what it was like to learn from Sandler on set.

Noah, let's start with you. Tommy's the son of Violet. Can you tell me a little bit more about Tommy and how he fits into the story?

Noah Schnapp: Yeah, Tommy is kind of an innocent kid. He has the hots for Paris' character a little bit and looks up to her. There's a little triangle between them and Karan's character.

Let's talk about your character, Paris. What does Megan see in Tommy when they first meet?

Paris Berelc: I think she views him as someone who isn't bullying Hubie, and sees his kindness, and probably sees a little bit of innocence. And she just thinks it's super cute. We love the innocent ones.

Karan, your character works with Hubie. Did you create a backstory? Because he's not the nicest dude, but he always has these great pranks that he pulls on Hubie. Can you talk to me about your character a little bit?

Karan Brar: Yeah, I just packed that character full of trauma. I was like, "Let's just get the most absurd trauma we can in there." No, I just have never really played a villain before. Villain for lack of a better term, so playing Mike was just the most fun. Because Adam is the nicest dude. I was like, "Okay, this is a really fun space where I can mess around a little bit." I actually just kind of commit to this role a little bit.

You get to share the screen with some of these comedic geniuses, and it's hard to imagine that everything on the page makes it onto the screen. Can you talk about some of the improv you were able to observe working with these great comedic legends?

Paris Berelc: Well, it made me feel like I needed to get my acting chops up. It was awesome seeing everyone just playing around and ad libbing and having fun. It was very inspiring and just made me realize like, "Okay, this is how it is. This is acting. This is really cool."

Noah, you've been on spooky sets before with Stranger Things. Can you talk to me about the difference between that set and Hubie?

Noah Schnapp: Oh, the difference? Honestly, I don't know. I feel like with Hubie, it was just a matter of the difference between working on a movie versus a TV show. TV shows, it's like a long period of time and you're living there, and with this movie, it was kind of in and out. But it was really nice to meet all these amazing cast members and work with Adam and just learn a lot.

What did you want to bring to your characters that may have not been on the page?

Paris Berelc: I guess I wanted to bring a little bit of edge, because she is kind and she's one of the few characters who aren't bullying Hubie. So, I wanted to add a little spice to her when she's calling out everyone else for bullying him. I guess maybe a little edge, that's what I was trying to do. I don't know if I did it.

Karan Brar: I think I just wanted to play this as - I don't want to say as serious as I could, but I think it's really funny having a character like Mike with someone like me playing him. Because normally I play nerds, and I think it's fun to have that goofy little mix of this really mean character and someone who's naturally just goofy and nerdy like myself. I thought that made for a really interesting dynamic.

Noah Schnapp: I feel like I had to add a little innocence to it, because my character is l kind of this innocent guy who really likes Paris' character. But it was just a lot of fun. Adam made it super easy and fun, and he let us go wherever and do whatever we want. So, it was really nice to be on set with him.
