Huawei has a new smartwatch coming, and the wearable has a pair of wireless earbuds built-in. Devices with built-in earbuds are getting popular. Back in July, HMD Global launched the Nokia 5710 XpressAudio feature phone. While the phone evokes a feeling of nostalgia with its design, the most interesting feature of the phone is the pair of built-in earbuds hidden cleverly on the back. All owners have to do is slide the plastic on the back of the phone, and the earbuds become accessible.

Phones are not the only devices with built-in earbuds that have made it to store shelves. In 2020, Lenovo unveiled the ThinkBook 15 Gen 2, a laptop with integrated earbuds. The earbuds are stored and charged in a tray that slides out from the side of the laptop. Because the earbuds are designed for the laptop, there is no need to fiddle with any settings as they automatically connect to the computer when they are brought out.

The popularity of smartwatches and earbuds has skyrocketed in recent times as several brands now offer both products at different price points. Huawei is no stranger to both segments but its new product combines both products into one. If the name doesn't already give it away, the Huawei Watch Buds is a smartwatch and a pair of earbuds in one. Videos and photos of the yet-to-be-announced product were shared by Twitter user Teme (@RODENT950), who has a track record of posting details of unreleased Huawei devices.

A Smartwatch First

The Huawei Watch Buds can be described as a smartwatch first. It has a round display, a single physical button on one side, and what appears to be replaceable straps made from leather. However, Huawei has designed the display of the watch to flip open to reveal a hidden compartment for a pair of earbuds. When the display is lifted, the earbuds, which are pretty small, can be seen to be attached to the underside of the display. Unfortunately, details of the Huawei Watch Buds such as display size, battery capacity, and battery life of the watch itself and earbuds, as well as other features of the earbuds are unknown.

However, it has been reported that the device is scheduled to launch in December, albeit in China first. The possibility of a global release isn't certain but even if it does make it out of China, it most likely won't be officially sold in the United States. Based on past launches, it may get released in Canada. The Huawei Watch Buds surely looks interesting, but it wouldn't be the first smartwatch with built-in earbuds as there are already a handful of similar devices already, albeit from lesser-known brands. However, with Huawei now joining the train, there is a chance other big brands may follow suit.
