Horses are an excellent way to travel in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but players will need to unlock the Stable at Lookout Landing to have a chance to use these creatures to explore. Having a mount is a great help to players, who will likely spend lots of time in the game wandering the map. Only through completing a side quest can players be able to tame horses they find in the wild and bring them back to this Stable.

Lookout Landing is discovered as one of the player's first safe havens, almost acting as a hub for them to buy new gear or upgrade their stats. However, players can't reach this area until they have completed the tutorial on the Great Sky Island and traveled down to the main Hyrule map below. It can be a bit confusing to navigate the massive size of Tears of the Kingdom's map, but players might spot Lookout Landing south of Hyrule Castle.

How To Complete The Incomplete Stable Quest

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom The Incomplete Stable Side Quest to Unlock the Looking Landing Stable

Traveling to Lookout Landing a couple of times eventually unlocks "The Incomplete Stable" side quest, where Karson asks players to repair the roof of the Stable. Those that spoke to Karson before would remember how the character mentioned that the Stable was in a poor state when Link arrived. Normally, this side quest becomes available once players have finished at least one Temple.

Players can unlock the Lookout Landing Stable by repairing the stable's roof using Link's Ultrahand ability.

One of Link's four new abilities in Tears of the Kingdom, Ultrahand, may be used to drag a wooden plank near the Stable onto the hole in the roof. Players can rotate, pull, or drag objects wherever they want using this special skill. Simply selecting the "Attach" prompt when the plank blocks the hole in the roof completes this task.

Talking to Karson and another NPC named Lester completes the quest, allowing players to catch wild horses and register them at the newly unlocked Stable. Another system called Pony Points is also introduced, giving rewards to players who frequently rest or board at Stables.

How to Tame & Register a Wild Horse

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Taming a Wild Horse by Using the Soothe Prompt

Many horses roam the wilderness, but for players to befriend one, they must approach the animal from behind while crouching. Once the "Mount" option appears, players should select that option as soon as possible, then rapidly press the L bumper to Soothe the horse quickly. From here, players can ride back to the nearest Stable to register their horse and even give it a name.

Horses are always available from Stables and have a dynamic relationship that players can build by feeding them apples or taking them out on adventures. Learning how to unlock the Lookout Landing Stable in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gives players this mechanic fairly early into the game, adding an extra layer to exploration with a companion at their side.
