With the tragic passing of police Commissioner Gordon going into Gotham Knights, Barbara Gordon takes on the mantle of Batgirl to become Gotham's protector and uses Elemental abilities to achieve that endeavor. Wielding a variety of gadgets that players can upgrade through Skill Trees that grant an Elemental Ability in Gotham Knights, Batgirl has more to prove as she sets out to combat Gotham's criminal underworld. Players who choose to traverse through the night as Batgirl will find her a balanced fighter who becomes a jack of all trades the more their tools are explored.

First appearing in Detective Comics No. 359 in 1967, Batgirl has been a staple of Batman comics, now being portrayed in Gotham Knights alongside other iconic characters like Red Hood, Robin, and Nightwing. Wielding an adjustable Tonfa that is capable of rapid-fire attacks or heavy-hitting strikes at close-range, Batgirl suits players that are the most accustomed to the Batman: Arkham games. An ideal replacement for Batman in Gotham Knights, Batgirl brings that same ingenuity to her combat that players enjoyed from the world's greatest detective.

Every hero in Gotham Knights has three Skill Trees that players may spend Action Points on to unlock new abilities and a fourth tree that activates more options for Batgirl called Knighthood. The Skill Trees in question are called Justice, Grit, and Oracle, with Knighthood being available once players unlock the Oracle tree through natural story progression. As of this time of writing, not all the abilities of the Grit and Oracle Skill Tress are known. However, the Justice abilities grant Batgirl options to increase the potential of Elemental Effect damage against villain bosses like Harley Quinn in Gotham Knights.

Unlocking the Elemental Ability of Batgirl in Gotham Knights

Batgirl's Elemental Ability in Gotham Knights is called Heavyweight in the Justice Skill Tree. Players need to have the prerequisite perk called Perfect Evade in order to access the upgrade pathway to Heavyweight. Thankfully, players already have an excellent opportunity to improve their combat using Perfect Evade, which sees their Momentum increase after Batgirl performs a perfectly-timed dodge before executing a possible follow-up strike.

Heavyweight technically does not apply Elemental Effect damage on its own, rather combining the upgrades made to Batgirl's tonfa into a more effective tool. Once unlocked, the Heavyweight ability makes Batgirl's stun Elemental Effect build-up increase by 20%, a drastic boost to immobilize stronger enemies. Combined with the acrobatic combat of Batgirl in Gotham Knights, the Justice Skill Tree bolsters critical hits and melee attack damage, causing this boost in the Elemental Effect to bring even more pain to Gotham's criminals.

Although there aren't much information on the other abilities in the Grit and Oracle Skill Trees in Gotham Knights, the singular options known infer possible Elemental Abilities that will be available to players. For example, the Oracle Skill Tree summons a drone that performs many tasks for Batgirl, including hacking enemy electronics. Players may gain Elemental Abilities tied to this drone that increase stun Elemental Effect durations or damage. In contrast, the Grit Skill Tree's emphasis on Batgirl's defenses may give her Elemental Resistances. No matter how long players invest in Gotham Knights and Batgirl, her Elemental Ability certainly provides an edge early on as players fight various crimes around the city.

Shortly after the deaths of Bruce Wayne and James Gordon, the city of Gotham has fallen under siege by an onslaught of crime. To return Gotham to order, Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood will join together to create the Gotham Knights - heroes to take the place of Batman and protect the city. Players will navigate an open-world Gotham City as they conduct operations from their headquarters, the Belfry. From here, players can select missions and manage characters while preparing to head out into the city. Characters will level up as they battle enemies, but also to keep the challenge heightened, the foes will level as well - but the game features a complete narrative outside of open-world crime fighting.
