Motion controls are a vital part of the gameplay in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Not only does this feature give players the ability to solve puzzles within shrines, but it also gives players another option for the method to aim bows. The two methods to aim bows are as follows: the use of Joy-Cons or a Pro-Controller to aim by physically moving the controller or by pressing buttons on the controller.

Upon purchase of the game, motion controls are automatically enabled. However, many players have expressed concern while using the motion control feature due to its difficulty and sensitivity. Unfortunately, there is no way to disable motion controls on the Nintendo Switch as a console. Luckily, there is a method to turn the motion control off within the game.

Motion Control menu in Zelda Breath of The Wild

There are two ways to enable or disable motion control in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. To access this feature via the game's main menu, use the following instructions:

To enable or disable the motion control feature while in-game, use the following instructions:

  1. Press the "Pause Menu" button located on the Nintendo Switch controller. This is depicted by a button shaped like a plus sign.
  2. Navigate to the "System" page using "R" on the Nintendo Switch Controller.
  3. Press "Options."
  4. Navigate to the option that says "Aim with motion controls." Pressing this button will either turn this feature "ON" or "OFF."

Once this feature is turned off, players will have to learn how to aim a bow by not using motion control. It is possible to aim a bow by using a combination of both joysticks. The left joystick moves the character while the right joystick moves the camera angle.

Note that motion controls will have to be enabled to solve some puzzles located within shrines. That being said, it is up to players if they would like to continue using motion controls for the entire duration of the game or switch between this feature and the traditional one. Although switching between these features may be a hassle to some, producers of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild have made it relatively simple to enable and disable motion controls.
