The Devil In Me introduces new mechanics in the Dark Pictures Anthology, including character inventories. Each of the five film crew members has a different tool to explore the island and escape the killer. For example, Jamie's tool is a multimeter she can use to fix the fuseboxes and restore power. Solving all three fusebox puzzles will give players two achievements: 0451 and Shocking.
When Jamie finds a new fusebox, players will have directions taped into the box door with arrows pointing to different fuses. The key to these arrows is to find the origin point and follow the arrows to the next fuse. If multiple arrows are pointing to one fuse, players must activate each of those fuses before clicking the fuse they point to. Unfortunately, the warning of what may happen should Jamie mess up, combined with the fact that The Devil In Me's serial killer is hunting the player down, can make it difficult to decipher these arrows, especially as the puzzles grow more complex.
Fuse Box #1
The first fuse box appears during "Island," as Kate and Jamie are partnered up. Kate will turn on a generator for the trolley, leaving Jamie to fix the fuse box. Players won't be able to miss this puzzle. The image above shows the order in which to press the fuses. It's a straightforward pattern to teach the player what's to come.
Fuse Box #2 & The Keypad
The second fuse box requires The Devil In Me's keypad code, found while players control Jamie in "Staff Only." The code is found on an invoice attached to a bulletin board. Once this invoice is discovered, players can view it at any time in their menu. The fusebox puzzle is located within a room locked by a keypad. It should be noted that turning the power back on will push the story along, so players should explore the area first before entering the room. When they are ready, players can put in the invoice code 0451 and unlock the fusebox. The correct sequence is featured in the above image. Completing the puzzle will reward players with the 0451 achievements and a creepy barbershop quartet. Had the scares of past Dark Pictures games been so spooky, they could have ranked higher on the Dark Pictures Anthology rank list.
The Last (& Most Complex) Fuse Box
The final fusebox can be found while playing Jamie during "Interrogation." Jamie will enter the blackout room, which looks different from the last time the player was there. Players can earn the Shocking achievement by activating the fuses in the order shown in the image. Players don't have to worry about Jamie dying before completing these three puzzles. The first time Jamie can die is in "Director's Suite" if the wall tries to crush her, and she does not possess the screwdriver. Not all choices end in death for the characters, but like in the previous game, House of Ashes, players must survive their final stand or lose all their characters. At least if that happens, players can check off all the fuse box puzzles in The Devil In Me.
