Gray is one of the best heroes to recruit in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. All heroes are reliable allies in the game, making them an essential part of the team. Fortunately, Gray is one of the first recruitable characters in this class in Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
While having a hero join the team isn't a required part of the game, it's a great idea to recruit one when playing through the increased difficulties or facing the more challenging bosses. Gray is a Full Metal Jaguar, making him one of the hero characters in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 with an offensive playstyle. Gray has attacks that cover a wide area of the battlefield, and his attacks become more deadly with every enemy he hits.
Before players unlock the ability to recruit Gray to the team in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Valdi must become available as a party member following the events of Chapter 2's main quest, "The Kind of Right Hand." This quest begins after the story objectives at Colony 4 have been finished, wherein the team's next task will lead them to the southern region of the map. They'll meet Valdi at Elsie's Spout, and the team will need to fight him to continue the quest. Afterward, the next step of The Kind of Right Hand is to complete the liberation of Colony 30. Once completed, Valdi will become available to use as a hero on the team, giving players the ability to recruit Gray and all other hero characters in Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3: How To Recruit Gray (Attacker Hero)
Once The Kind of Right Hand is complete, players will unlock the ability to climb up specific walls found throughout Xenoblade Chronicle 3. Next, head to the Kamos Guidepost landmark and continue traveling northeast toward a pink-colored moss wall. Using the newly unlocked ability, climb the wall and continue into the blue light. Gray will introduce himself during a cutscene, and the quest called "A Gray Matter" will begin.
The A Gray Matter quest begins with Gray attacking the player's team, and they'll need to bring him down to half-health to finish the fight. Unlike the quest to recruit Zeon in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, this quest has players fight Gray twice before the battle is over. When Gray runs away after the first fight, track him down by following his marked footsteps. Another cutscene will begin after finding his location, and the second battle will begin. Upon defeating Gray for the second time, players will unlock the ability for Gray to join the party as an Attacker hero.
