The iconic Sims 4 will now be free to download for all players across different platforms. Although not all players would rank The Sims 4 as the best of the franchise, the Sims 4 base game still offers a solid amount of content for players looking for a new simulation title. The free release of the game will undoubtedly attract thousands of new players who can now share their creativity with the community.

The Sims is undoubtedly not a cheap franchise to be a fan of, particularly when it comes to The Sims 4. The latest entry, released in 2014, is the most expensive to date in terms of the number of DLC released for the game. However, the base game's price has decreased over the years, slowly decreasing from its initial $59.99 to $19.99.

It was announced last month that The Sims 4 would become free for all players beginning on October 18, 2022. This coincides with the Behind The Sims Summit livestream celebrating 22 years of The Sims franchise. Unfortunately, players who already owned The Sims 4 were only compensated with a free copy of the latest Kit, Desert Luxe, but new players can still score the game for free with only a few simple steps.

How To Get The Sims 4 For Free

Technically, The Sims 4 can be downloaded for PC via either Origin or the new EA App, but Origin will shortly become obsolete as EA moves over to their new platform, so it's recommended that PC players utilize the EA App in this instance. However, there are currently no plans to release the EA App for Mac, so those players will still need to download Origin. The two apps can be downloaded from the official EA website download page and installed by clicking either the Origin DMV file or the EAappInstaller.exe file after downloading.

Whether players are using Origin or the EA App, they will need to have an account with EA in order to download The Sims 4. Once either program is installed and opened, players will have the option to quickly make an account if they don't have one already. From there, players can search for The Sims 4 in the search bar located on the left or top of the UI, depending on the app; the EA App also currently has a special advertisement on the home page for the game that players can click to take them directly to the Sims 4 store page, where they can download and play The Sims 4 for free.

Console players will have a much easier time downloading The Sims 4 for free than those playing the game on the computer, as they won't need an EA account and won't need to download additional software. Instead, players must navigate to the Microsoft or Playstation store, which can be done via the Xbox Home button or scrolling to the bottom of the Home screen on Xbox consoles or using the icon on the Playstation Home screen. Afterward, players must search for The Sims 4 and download it like any other game.
