God of War: Ragnarok continues the saga of Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they brave the harsh Fimbulwinter and attacks from the gods, raiders, and mythical creatures against whom Kratos will eventually need to use Light Runic attacks. To combat these old and new threats, Kratos wields both his more unique Leviathan Axe and the classic Blades of Chaos. In addition, he can command Atreus to use his bow to attack enemies. Thankfully, players don't need to play God Of War (2018) to appreciate God of War: Ragnarok.

One of the features in the newer God of War games is his ability to use Runic Attacks. Each of his weapons can hold gems for these moves. These abilities slowly gather energy that can be released into a power attack. This help gives Kratos a variety of options in combat to either damage, stun, or increase elemental effects. Intimate knowledge of abilities like this will be necessary if players wish to get 100% completion in God of War: Ragnarok. One such ability they should be familiar with is the Light Runic Attack.

Unlocking Light Runic Attacks in God Of War: Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarok Light Runic Attack

While blocking using the L1 button and then pressing the R1 button, Kratos can unleash a Light Runic Attack. These attacks take time to recharge, which can be sped up by increasing the Cooldown (CLD) stat. The effectiveness of these attacks can also be improved by raising the Runic (RNC) stat. To increase their effectiveness, these abilities can be further advanced with experience points (XPs. These Runic Attack gems can be slotted into weapons, though they are specific to each weapon. As the game continues, it will be important to understand how this ability can be used alongside the other new moves in God of War: Ragnarok.

The first Runic Attack Kratos can acquire is Winter's Bite, gained after the boss battle with the Huntress in the game's opening hours. It will form a "mass of ice around the Leviathan Axe, and Kratos will run up to strike a target with incredible force." At a CLD of 0 (the base level of the stat), this ability takes 75 seconds to recharge. As such, players will only be able to use this sparingly throughout combat. Other Runic Attack gems can be found in the semi-open-world and purchased at shops. Players are also recommended to make sure that upgrades to weapons are purchased from Brok and Sindri in God of War: Ragnarok.
