In the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, there are many horses to ride, but those wanting to ride in style will want to acquire Zelda’s Golden Horse. Link is the clear choice to take care of the Golden Horse in Zelda’s absence, and Link needs a good horse to traverse the breadth of Hyrule. However, finding and acquiring this horse is not as easy as it appears.

Those wandering Hyrule will be directed to head to Rito Village in the northeast corner of the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's map. The closest stable, Snowfield Stable, is an excellent place to stop and restock before continuing to Rito Village. Hiding in plain sight is Zelda’s Golden Horse, who is stabled with the rest of the horses. However, players will have to search further afield to ride and register this horse.

How To Acquire & Register Zelda's Golden Horse

Interacting with the horse’s caretaker at Snowfield Stable is not enough to start the quest for the horse. She will tell you a little about the horse and that it has been sad since Zelda disappeared. However, no conversation will allow Link to take the horse. Instead, it is better to continue toward Rito Village.

How To Start The Golden Horse Quest

To get the horse, stop at the tent off the road just outside of Rito Village. This is the Lucky Clover Gazette, which Link might have heard rumors of before this point. Interact with Penn and inside to start the “Potential Princess Sightings” side quest.

This side quest has several associated rumors and quests, which generally lead Link to each stable around Hyrule.

At this point, head back to the Snowfield Stable. When Link returns, the caretaker will be distraught this time, and the Golden Horse will be missing. Penn is also already present, talking to the caretaker. Interact with both of them to listen in on what happened to the horse. The caretaker will say that she hopes someone might be able to rescue the horse, which ran north of the stable.

How To Find Zelda's Golden Horse

Link can then head north, but before leaving the stable, make sure to cook some Stamina-boosting food, particularly if you have not yet upgraded Link’s Stamina Wheel in Tears of the Kingdom. The Golden Horse will require about two stamina wheels to tame. After preparing a meal or elixir, head north. The horse can be found toward the top of the map in North Tabantha Snowfield. It never wanders far, even if it has been spooked.

Approach and mount the horse like any other horse, preparing to soothe as fast as possible. Once the horse is tamed, ride it back to Snowfield Stable and talk to Penn and the caretaker without dismounting. Exhaust the dialogue, and Link will be allowed to keep the horse, and the caretaker will give Link the horse’s royal garb, which includes a Saddle and Bridle. Then talk to the stable master to register the horse, which will give Link a Pony Point and allow him to name and keep Zelda’s Golden Horse for the entirety of Tears of the Kingdom.

Zelda’s horse has fairly good stats, with four stars in Strength and Speed, three in Stamina, and two in Pull. It also has a Gentle temperament and is quite easy to max out the bond. The horse will not be suitable for those who want to pull a lot of carts, but it will be good for those who want a strong, fast horse to get them across Hyrule and run down smaller enemies. It is a good option for players beginning their adventures in Hyrule, as it is possible to get Zelda’s Golden Horse quite early in Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
