Sea of Thieves has a new update in which players can get a pet fox. This comes with everything Sea of Thieves’ season seven update already adds, most notably the ability for players to become captains of their own ships. Adding foxes to the game means that players can now get a staggering variety of pets, including parrots, monkeys, dogs, and cats, in an impressive array of colors.

Like most things in Sea of Thieves, foxes are a cosmetic choice. There are unique animations that foxes will do in certain situations. For example, try using the default dance emote, and the fox will dance along. Play an instrument, and the fox will attempt to “sing.” Unfortunately, there are no in-game benefits players get from owning a fox. It won’t put out fires, it won’t fight skeletons, and it won’t even help Sea of Thieves players bury their treasure. However, the fox does look incredibly cute, and it will keep players company on the long journeys between the many islands in Sea of Thieves.

The most important interaction players can do with their foxes is here. Yes, players can pet their foxes. Sea of Thieves is on the list of games where players can pet animals. This alone doesn’t make Sea of Thieves one of the best pirate video games of all time, but considering its rocky launch in 2018, the game is among the most improved and keeps improving.

Getting Foxes in Sea of Thieves

Getting Foxes in Sea of Thieves

The place to find foxes is in Sea of Thieves’ Pirate Emporium. It can be accessed in the game’s menu before sailing the seas or by visiting it in any of the outposts above the Order of Souls representatives. Getting a fox requires players to spend ancient coins. Players can get ancient coins in Sea of Thieves through gameplay. In fact, a good time for players to hoard ancient coins is through Sea of Thieves’ upcoming community day on September 17th, where the rate of ancient skeletons appearing increases. Usually, the easiest way to get ancient coins is through spending real money, so this event is one that players don’t want to miss.

There are a variety of foxes that players can purchase, coming in all different colors. They include the Auburn Fox, Snowdrift Fox, Veiled Fox, Slate Fox, and Shoreline Fox. Each of these foxes costs 499 ancient coins, or players can buy one for $5.49. Unlike the other types of animals in Sea of Thieves, such as dogs, players cannot purchase an outfit for their pet fox yet, but that will hopefully be added in a future update. There are also no foxes in the collector’s pets section like the other types of pets yet. However, players can hopefully expect those at some point, meaning there will likely be more foxes in Sea of Thieves in the future.
