The series finale of How to Get Away With Murder had a lot to accomplish, primarily wrapping up the overarching story regarding the murder of Sam and ending the stories of characters that we had been following for such a long time.

The last 5 minutes of the episode did exactly that by showing where each of them ends up, bringing about the conclusion to their journeys. So here is what happened to each character in the How to Get Away With Murder series finale.

Connor

Connor in HTGAWM

Throughout the season, Connor has been dealing with overwhelming guilt for lying about Annalise in exchange for a plea deal, as well as all the things he did that led up to that moment. He eventually decides that he needed to go to jail and face punishment for everything, despite Oliver's attempts to get him to agree to no years. One of the show's saddest moments came after Annalise's trial when Connor and Oliver say their goodbyes to one another, with Connor thanking his husband for showing him how to love and giving him back his ring in an attempt to keep Oliver from waiting for him, before being taken away by a guard. The last we see of him is at Annalise's funeral with Oliver, implying that they got back together after he was released.

Michaela

Michaela in HTGAWM

Michaela spent a lot of time justifying her actions and explaining why she didn't feel guilty about turning on Annalise and lying for the FBI in an attempt to save her own skin. It became clear that she was only really looking out for herself when it was revealed that she got a better deal than Connor without telling him. As Connor is being taken away to serve his time, she attempts to console Oliver, who lashes out at her, insisting that she should be the one going to prison. She desperately attempts to call Laurel but the call doesn't go through due to the number apparently being disconnected, leaving her utterly alone. During the final montage, we see a much older version of her being sworn in as a judge, one of her many goals (seemingly accompanied by her two daughters) but she is not present during Annalise's funeral.

Laurel

Karla Souza as Laurel Castillo in How To Get Away With Murder

After being confronted by Annalise, Laurel decides to do the right thing and tell the truth on the stand. We later see her approach Tegan with a proposition of giving her land if she can do something for her. We later find out that the job was to have her father killed in prison finally granting her a sense of security and peace from her family.

She is there at the courthouse when the gunshots go off but quickly drives away in an attempt to protect herself and Christopher. The last time we see her is at Annalise's funeral with a now grown-up Christopher who asks if she wants to say anything about Annalise.

Nate

Nate Lahey in How To Get Away With Murder

Despite the fact that the FBI offered $20 Million to testify against Annalise on the stand and the fact that most of the things she was accused of doing to him were true, Nate decided to help her and rejected the FBI's offer. He later shows up at Annalise's house to admits his mistakes and say goodbye, insisting that he would eventually end up getting his money. The final montage shows him opening up a justice center in honor of his father.

Oliver

Conrad Ricamora as Oliver in How To Get Away With Murder

In a desperate last move to keep his husband from going to prison, Oliver went to the FBI and negotiated for Connor to get no years in prison in exchange for his cooperation, however, Connor refuses to take the deal and tries to get Oliver to divorce him. As Connor is being taken away, he rejects Michaela's attempts to console him and insisting that it should have been her. We last see him at Annalise's funeral with Connor meaning that Oliver never signed the divorce papers.

Bonnie

Bonnie Winterbottom in How To Get Away With Murder

This episode saw an obviously struggling Frank packing his belongings and leaving Bonnie's house, saying that he would learn to forgive her in time for telling him the truth about his parents. After the trial, Bonnie is standing next to Annalise and is the first to notice Frank was heading towards the Governor. She goes to stop him but is too late as Frank shoots at Birkhead, killing her immediately.

She holds Frank as he dies from wounds from the returning shots. When Annalise comes over to see about Frank, she realizes that Bonnie had been hit with a bullet after getting caught in the crossfire. Annalise cries out for help desperately trying to shake Bonnie awake as she slowly dies in Annalise's arms.

Frank

Frank Delfino from How To Get Away WIth Murder

After finding out from Bonnie that he was actually the son of Sam and Hannah Keating, Frank became distraught, leaving Bonnie and giving the rest of the suitcase full of cash he received to Gabriel. Near the end of the episode, he shows up at the courthouse after the trial to kill Governor Birkhead. After he shoots her, he gets shot by her security and dies in Bonnie's arms instructing her to tell Annalise that he made things right.

Gabriel

How To Get Away WIth Murder Gabriel Maddox

Gabriel never really got a proper answer from anyone about what really happened to his father but he got some insight from Michaela's testimony that gave him a part of the picture. In the finale, we see a devastated Frank giving him instructions to leave town and leave all of it behind. In the end, following the trial, we see him leaving town with the suitcase full of money that Frank had received from the Mahoneys.

Christopher

One of the episode's most surprising characters to appear in the series finale at Annalise's funeral was an adult version of Christopher, who we were led to believe by the trailers for the episode was actually Wes. During the very last scene, we find out that Christopher is actually a Professor at Middleton University and is teaching the same class originally taught by Annalise, who he refers to as a mentor. The series ends with him introducing himself and walking up to the board and writing "How to Get Away With Murder", ending the series almost exactly as it began.

Annalise

Since the beginning of season 6, Annalise's death had been teased as a major moment for this season. Despite all the testimonies working against her, she manages to convince the jury of her innocence and wins her trial. After the incident with Bonnie, Frank, and Governor Birkhead, it is revealed that while she did die, it wasn't due to tragic circumstances but rather after growing old and living a full and, for the most part, happy life. One of the final scenes is at her funeral at which Eve speaks about her while we see her at different points in her life.
