To catch the chameleon Pokémon Kecleon in Pokémon GO, Pokémon Trainers have to investigate their local Pokéstops in search of a chance encounter. First introduced in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Kecleon first appeared as an invisible obstacle that Pokémon Trainers could accidentally bump into while traveling along Hoenn’s central and eastern routes. To catch the Color Swap Pokémon in Pokémon GO, Trainers will have to keep an eye out for similar obstacles on their travels, particularly when visiting Pokéstops to grab useful gear for capturing and battling other pocket monsters.

Much like the amorphous purple blob Ditto in Pokémon GO, Kecleon disguises itself in Pokémon GO, making it tricky to track down. Fortunately, unlike Ditto, Kecleon doesn’t masquerade as other Pokémon and instead blends into its surroundings, becoming practically invisible.

While this would make it extremely tough to find, Kecleon doesn’t actually appear in encounters in the open world like most other Pokémon in Pokémon GO. Instead, it seems exclusively at Pokéstops at random, so Trainers stand a good chance of having an encounter by investigating all of the Pokéstops they come across during their travels.

To catch Kecleon, Trainers must interact with Pokéstops, where they usually collect useful items such as Poke Balls for catching Pokémon GO’s latest Spotlight Hour Pokémon. However, when attempting to spin a Pokéstop disc to collect items, Trainers may find they cannot do so. Instead, a pop-up will appear, indicating the presence of an invisible obstacle. This indicates a Kecleon is attached to the Pokéstop, and Trainers may already have spotted the pocket monster’s outline and its telltale red zigzag stripe.

To trigger the encounter, Trainers must tap Kecleon a few times to force it to hop off the Pokéstop. It should then appear in the overworld nearby as a normal Pokémon encounter. Kecleon is relatively rare at the moment, so Trainers should try and use every trick they have at their disposal, including using Pokémon GO’s Berries, to improve their chances. Kecleon doesn’t evolve into any other Pokémon, but its rarity and unique catching method make it an exciting addition to Trainers’ Pokédexes.

Its rarity means that Trainers will likely have to travel a bit in search of Pokéstops. However, other options do exist for dedicated Kecleon fans, including visiting Las Vegas during the upcoming Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn event. Grabbing a ticket means Trainers might encounter Kecleon or even Shiny Kecleon, which reportedly won’t appear elsewhere in the world for some time. But, again, this is likely only an option for a select few.

Alternatively, Trainers might be able to count on their friends to catch Kecleon. Apart from a few Pokémon which can’t be traded, Trainers can trade Pokémon with friends, making this a great way to obtain the Color Swap Pokémon in Pokémon GO.
