Available in two distinct forms within the Paldea Region of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Gimmighoul is a Ghost-type Pokémon that players can evolve into a more powerful form named Gholdengo by collecting a certain number of items tied to this treasure-dwelling pocket monster. Players can find both variations of Gimmighoul either by searching for the Chest Form atop Watchtowers or at the end of ancient ruins scattered among the open world or by finding the Roaming Form in regular wild encounters. Defeating either version of this Pokémon grants players a special item, called Gimmighoul Coins, that contributes toward the overall goal necessary for evolving this exclusive creature.
Evolving Gimmighoul into Gholdengo requires players to collect 999 Gimmighoul Coins from around the Region, interacting either with Chest or Roaming Form alternates throughout the game. Obviously, players will also need to catch one Gimmighoul, specifically a Chest Form version that can accept a large number of Coins for its transformation. Although Gimmighoul is tricky to catch in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, the earning of the aforementioned Coins only demands that players battle this Pokémon and defeat it, which gives players a certain amount of this currency.
How To Collect More Gimmighoul Coins in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Depending on whether players find a Chest or Roaming Form Gimmighoul in the wild, the amount of Gimmigoul Coins received is determined by which variant was fought. Typically, fighting the Chest Form Gimmighoul nets a considerable amount of Coins, between 50-60, after a given battle. The rarity of these Chest Forms makes these encounters few and far between at the landmarks of Paldea that host these creatures. In contrast, the Roaming Forms are found hidden in common places near rocks, secret walls, farm equipment, or under trees in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet's vast map. Unlike their treasure-surrounded counterparts, Roaming Form Gimmighoul only provide 5-6 Coins on average due to their commonality.
Gimmighoul are dealt with best by trainers with a team of Pokémon of Dark- or Ghost-type, both of whom have an advantage against Ghost-types. However, while the Roaming Form has the Run Away Ability to flee from battle without fail, the Chest Form has a trait known as Rattled, which boosts its Speed stat when hit by a Dark, Bug, or Ghost-type move, two of which are super-effective against Gimmighoul. This natural defense could make battling Chest Form Gimmighoul for their Coins a bit more difficult for players, encouraging experimentation with other strategies in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to take down these hoarding Pokémon.
