A Special Research Story accompanies a Team GO Rocket event this week with a takeover of Pokémon GO. The Ultra Beast Protection Efforts Research Tasks give trainers many rewards, including a chance to catch Shadow Mewtwo in Pokémon GO until December 1st, 2022. Trainers participating in this event will also encounter new sets of catchable Shadow Pokémon from Team Rocket Grunts and Team Rocket Leaders. Knowing what counters to use during these fights will make checking off the tasks easier and getting rewards faster.

In Pokémon GO, trainers can take different approaches that work best for the resources they have. The first method is stocking up on Nanab Berries, which decreases a Pokémon's movement. This slows down Shadow Mewtwo to aim throws better. The second method is stocking up on Golden Razz Berries. With the effect of the berry increasing catch rate by 2.5x, carefully aim a hit with the Premier Ball. To catch the Shadow Legendary Mewtwo with only a few Premier Balls will take patience.

How to Defeat Giovanni

Shadow Entei roars as it stands next to Giovanni in Pokemon GO promo

Like all Team GO Rocket Leaders and Bosses, they will use their shields as soon as a trainer uses a charged move. Therefore, it's important to get them to use their shields within the first two Pokémon. Giovanni always begins with his signature Classy Cat Pokémon, Persian. For his next Pokémon which will have Ground-typing (Nidoking, Steelix, or Rhyperior), Giovanni can easily be beaten by a Water Pokémon such as Swampert, a Pokémon GO fan-favorite Water-type. For his last Pokémon Shadow Mewtwo, Bug-, Dark-, and Ghost-type attacks are super effective.
