One of the new central features of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was the introduction of Tera Pokémon, glittering pocket monsters with Tera Jewels on top of their head, causing their bodies to glisten like cut gemstones. Besides their strikingly novel appearance, these Tera Pokémon also gain special power, enabling them to dominate their opponents in a battle. However, the same applies to Wild Tera pocket monsters that Trainers face throughout their journey in Paldea. Similar to the Alpha Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus or the Shadow Pokémon of Pokémon GO, these altered creatures are notably stronger than their default forms.
There are several ways to find glistening Tera pocket monsters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, one of which is encountering one as a Wild Tera Pokémon. Wild Tera Pokémon variants behave exactly as their basic forms, except fighting them can be slightly more challenging. While community members are still speculating about the respawn rates, spawn times, and other aspects of these mysterious pocket monsters, it does appear that these Tera variants spawn in similar locations for every player, meaning that their spots on the Paldea are not randomized.
Catching a Wild Tera Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet
While Trainers might be confused about how they can catch a Wild Tera Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the process is the same as any normal pocket monster in Paldea. In other words, if players encounter one in the open world, they can approach it to initiate the battle sequence. However, one notable difference besides its increased power level is the occurrence that takes place when the Wild Tera Pokémon's HP is low. This "shattering event" causes the Tera Pokémon to lose its Terastallized properties.
If Trainers do too much damage to a Wild Tera Pokémon, it will faint before it can "de-Terastallize," so players must be sure not to execute their most potent Moves if they wish to catch it. If players would like to revert these pocket monsters into their Tera forms, they can do so with Tera Shards earned from Tera Raid Battles.
