Sonic Frontiers features enormous bass battles, and Giganto lives up to his name for its showdown with the speedy hedgehog. Fighting is at the forefront in the latest rendition of the beloved platform series. Sonic Frontiers is full of unique enemies, and challenging bosses called Titans at the end of each map. The first area Sonic speeds into is Kronos Island, a lush location full of ruins and robot foes. The maps in the game are large and full of giant robots geared toward destroying the red-shoed speedster. The largest of the enemies is Giganto, the first boss in the game and the big bad at the end of Kronos Island.

Kronos Island features mini-bosses and missions leading up to the showdown with Giganto. One of them is Asura, a towering robot who will give the player an insight into what's to come in the fight with Giganto. Sonic can fight Asura early on and learn how to climb and attack him to prepare for Giganto. The big difference is Giganto and all the Titans in Sonic Frontier are impossible to beat without transforming into Super Sonic. Sonic takes on Giganto in his standard form and is quickly defeated and knocked out. After Sonic collects all the Chaos Emeralds, he transforms into Super Sonic and is ready for his rematch with the Titan. To destroy Giganto, the player must complete A Grave Mystery Puzzle and fight through phases one and two of the boss battle.

A Grave Mystery

Labeled Pillars for a Grave Mystery in Sonic Frontier

To get to Giganto, the player has to solve the Grave Mystery Puzzle, marked as an Island Mystery on the map. Sonic takes control of black pillars and turns them so the beams overlap over the dirt pattern. Sonic can control all the posts by walking up and hitting the action button. This puzzle can take time to figure out, like the Owl Puzzle in Gotham Knights.

The picture above has four pillars numbered 1-4. Start by turning pillar 1 to the one directly next to it that is slightly northwest. Next, turn pillar four towards the pillar to the east, creating a boot shape with a line sticking out of the toe. Next, move pillar three so it is beaming off the post diagonal from it and to the south. All pillars connect at this point except for pillar two, and the puzzle should look like the image above. Move Pillar two to face the pillar to the southwest. Go back to pillar one and turn it to the post that is to the north; this should fill in the west side of the puzzle. Lastly, head to pillar four and move it directly to the left. Saving time on this puzzle will shorten how long it takes to beat Sonic Frontiers. Completing the puzzle will open up a path to a nearby waterfall where Sonic can climb to fight Giganto.

Phase One

Super Sonic & Giganto Sonic Frontiers

After Sonic climbs through the waterfall, there will be a cinematic, and the player will have to climb up Giganto to get to its back and head. Climbing Giganto is more manageable than Asura as it is unbothered by Sonic's presence and doesn't attack in this phase. However, be aware that ring pulses on top of Giganto will hurt Sonic, so avoid them. At the top, Sonic will collect the final Chaos Crystal and turn into Super Sonic. Now that the playing field is level, the real battle begins.

Super Sonic doesn't take any damage, but his rings will gradually decrease as the fight continues, so make the battle quick. Giganto will whack Sonic away, which takes up time. The best way to combat this is by getting a medium distance away and holding down the parry button to let the Titan land a shot. Landing a perfect parry in Sonic Frontiers gives the player a leg up in Sonic Frontiers. Sonic will dodge out of the way and open up for a powerful combo attack that does significant damage and sends Giganto staggering backward. Use this technique to get the boss to half its health to trigger its cinematic transformation.

Phase Two

Giganto in Sonic Frontier with Lasers on his back

Giganto goes berserk and red tubes with lasers shooting out of them pop all over his back. Next, he will shoot a giant energy beam out of his mouth that will prompt a quick time event to mash the button on the screen. The Titan will now try to crush Sonic with his massive scary teeth. First, he will bring his arms together in a clap motion with Sonic as the meat of the hand sandwich. Next, Giganto brings Sonic into his mouth, prompting another QTE event to escape. The back lasers will send Sonic flying, so stay in front of the Titan.

In Sonic Origins, cheat codes give the player a leg up, but in this fight, it's all about sticking to a strategy. Thankfully, the Titan didn't learn from the first phase and will keep trying to swipe at Sonic, opening up for the same devastating combo. The best way to ensure victory is to tap through the new attacks, hold down parry when he swings and land the combo attack.

If the player wants a more challenging experience, take on the Titan without utilizing the parry and super combo method. The Titan is vulnerable when Super Sonic gets close. Spam Sonic Boom from close up to take advantage of this weakness and set off Phantom Rush. At this point in the game, the player should have unlocked these skills, which are an effective combo to defeat the enemy. In the first phase of the fight, Sonic can do significant damage, with this Sonic Frontiers Titan only landing a few punches. In Phase two, this method can be a little more tricky, but it still works.

When Giganto's health bar is empty, Sonic will blast a hole through the monster, exploding it and ending the fight. Finally, Kronos Island is complete, and Sonic moves on to meet up with his old pal/nemesis, Knuckles, on Ares Island. Giganto is the first of many big mechanical meanies the hedgehog goes toe to toe with in Sonic Frontiers.
