Trainers hoping to defeat Team Star in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will, at some point, have to face Giacomo, the leader of the Dark Crew. Team Star is often on the way to other missions, such as Gyms, that the trainer might be heading toward. Therefore, it is important to have a plan before striding into a Team Star base to progress through the game.

Team Star is a somewhat villainous group in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet that has more or less dropped out. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the player character is just starting at the university, and the main journey is an elective in which the students can get real-life experience. The students who have joined Team Star were once the target of bullies, and they have banded together to protect themselves. However, they have also blocked off roads and stopped attending class, so it will be the trainer’s job to defeat them.

Defeating the Dark Crew Base and Giacomo

Team Star Outside the Main Tent in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

There are five Team Star bases throughout Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Giacomo is the leader of the Dark Crew. The way the Star Bases work is that trainers first have to defeat the grunts before facing the leader. Unlike in past games, in this one, the trainer does not have to battle each grunt individually. Instead, the first three Pokémon in the party can be sent out to fight the Pokémon of the five different Team Star crews in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. In this case, it will be Dark-type Pokémon.

For the Dark Crew in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, it will be important to gather Fighting-, Bug-, or Fairy-type Pokémon, such as Pawmi or Fidough. These types are super effective against Dark-types, making the first part of the fight much easier. Simply run through the base as fast as possible, sending out Pokémon against any that the Dark crew sends out. The Pokémon in the party will automatically engage an enemy Pokémon they see. If one has low health, there are vending machines to restore their health. Once thirty enemy Pokémon have been defeated, the final fight with Giacomo will be triggered.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has a Tera-type mechanic for Pokémon, and since Giacomo only has two Pokémon, it is safe to trigger a Tera-type that is super efficient against Dark-types. First, Giacomo will send out Pawniard. Pawniard is a Dark-/Steel-type Pokémon, so the same type of Pokémon used in the previous grunt battle should be sufficient to take Pawniard out quickly. After that, Giacomo will state that the fight is not over and will send out Revaroom.

Each Team Star base leader in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has a car-like Pokémon as their final Pokémon. They are still weak or effective against the same types as the leader controlling them. They can hit harder, so if the trainer has a move like Force Palm or Fake Out that can either give the target paralysis or make them flinch, it might help. But Revaroom can be defeated with a couple of well-timed Fighting-, Fairy-, or Bug-type moves.

Once Giacomo is defeated, the trainer will gain new TM recipes in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet at the TM machine, a pile of loot, and a new badge. This will also trigger a cutscene, allowing the player to learn more about Team Star and unravel its mystery. But, of the most immediate importance, it will open the road blockade and allow any trainer who defeats Giacomo to continue their adventure through Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
