Instagram Reels can be a great place to find fun videos from the app's best creators, but knowing how to tailor them to your interests is essential to avoid constantly encountering unwanted Reels suggestions. Instagram is now far more than a photo-sharing app. It also has Stories for more casual uploads, a robust search page to help users find content, and even integrated shopping tools.

Instagram Reels, the platform's answer to TikTok, have become a huge component of today's Instagram. They're a way to upload short videos (up to 60 seconds long) with the entire Instagram community. Having a TikTok-like feature built right into Instagram is excellent for some users — except when Instagram shows Reels they don't like. For those who keep seeing suggested Reels that aren't a good fit, Instagram makes it easy to remove these posts from the feed and improve its recommendations.

How To Remove Suggested Reels

Removing suggested Instagram Reels

To remove a suggested Reel, tap the three dots on the video near the bottom right corner. Then hit 'Not interested,' and the post will instantly be hidden. Users can hide Reels suggestions shown in their main feed or on the Instagram Reels page by following the same process. To access the latter, users should tap the video player icon at the bottom of the screen. A video immediately starts playing upon landing on the Reels page, and users can tap the heart button to like the video and swipe up to scroll through other Reels.

After hitting 'Not interested,' a popup message will appear offering the chance to undo the action if it was done by accident. This window will allow users to take further action, too, including blocking all content from that creator or specific keywords. Users can also indicate ‘This post made me uncomfortable.’ To hide that creator’s posts moving forward, just hit ‘Don’t suggest posts from [user].’

Hiding Specific Types Of Reels Content

Selecting ‘Don’t suggest posts with certain words’ allows users to opt out of suggested Reels that contain specific phrases and even emoji in their captions or hashtags. After tapping this option, users will be directed to a popup that allows them to enter the words, phrases, and emoji they wish to stop seeing. Users can undo these changes at any point by going to their settings.

Not only does removing a suggested Reel get rid of that specific Reel you don't like, but it also helps Instagram recommend fewer videos like it. The more you remove suggested Reels that aren't your cup of tea, the better Instagram should get at recommending suggested Reels you actually like watching.
