It's taken eight years to get there, but all indications point to season 8 being the last for How I Met Your Mother. Some fans may feel that the show's central narrative has lost its way and that the series has begun to wear thin, while others are hoping that the series will continue until at least season 9.
Luckily for all HIMYM fans, however, the series is gearing up for a big season 8. The season premiere already revealed more about the fateful moment when Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) meets his future wife, and upcoming episodes are sure to see numerous twists and turns between Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin (The Avengers' Cobie Smulders. However, the latest bit of news focuses instead on Alyson Hannigan and Jason Segel, who portray new parents Lily and Marshall on the show.
Prior to HIMYM, Hannigan was, of course, best known for her role as Willow Rosenberg on Joss Whedon's beloved Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. Now, thanks to the official HIMYM Twitter account, word has arrived that Seth Green – who played Willow's boyfriend (and occasional werewolf) Oz on Buffy – is set for a guest appearance in an upcoming episode.
TVLine has since confirmed details on that initial reveal. Green will appear in the December 10th episode as Daryl LaCoutre, a college classmate of Lily and Marshall's who considered himself their best friend. The couple, however, doesn't remember him, despite his obsession with being a part of their life. The role sounds like it could be a real showcase for Green's comic timing.
Besides Buffy, the actor is known for his work on Family Guy and Robot Chicken as well as a laundry list of film credits, including the Austin Powers trilogy. He and Hannigan also shared the screen all the way back in the 1988 Dan Aykroyd comedy My Stepmother Is An Alien.
However, Green is far from the first actor to have gone from a role on a Joss Whedon show to a guest appearance on HIMYM. Amy Acker, Morena Baccarin, Harry Groener, Tom Lenk, Danny Strong and Hannigan's husband, Alexis Denisof, have all popped up during the show's run.
Are you excited that Green and Hannigan will be reunited on HIMYM, Screen Rant readers? Were you a fan of their Buffy storyline? Let us know in the comments.
How I Met Your Mother airs Mondays at 8pm on CBS.
