Hulu's upcoming How I Met Your Mother spinoff series, How I Met Your Father, expands its cast with the addition of Kim Cattrall. How I Met Your Mother was a smash hit sitcom created by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas that ran for nine seasons. The show's cast featured Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan, and Neil Patrick Harris as series standout Barney Stinson. How I Met Your Mother ended with a series finale that most fans found disappointing, yet the series was successful enough to warrant a spinoff.

How I Met Your Father is set to follow a similar structure as How I Met Your Mother - it will feature an older version of the protagonist, Sophie, telling her son how she met his father. That structure will act as a framing device for each episode, while the central focus will be on the younger characters as they navigate love in the world of dating apps and endless options. The cast of How I Met Your Father is led by Hilary Duff as Sophie, alongside Christopher Lowell, Josh Peck, Francia Raisa, Suraj Sharma, and Ashley Reyes. However, it would seem as though the cast is growing with a new addition.

As reported by Deadline, How I Met Your Father has cast Kim Cattrall, best known as Samantha on Sex and the City, in a significant recurring role. Cattrall will be portraying the future version of Duff's Sophie, acting as the storyteller and narrator to each episode. This structure mirrors How I Met Your Mother, where Bob Saget's future Ted Mosby narrated the story portrayed by Radnor's younger version.

Cattrall has been acting since the 1970s, with her career gaining traction in the '80s with movies like Porky's, Police Academy, and Big Trouble in Little China. However, most audiences will likely recognize her from her work on Sex and the City, which earned her a Golden Globe for Supporting Actress and five Emmy nominations. Recently, Cattrall has appeared on the series Filthy Rich, and she just wrapped filming on a movie called About My Father with Robert DeNiro.

Cattrall's role on How I Met Your Father is likely to be just narration, as How I Met Your Mother never featured Saget outside of his voice. Even in the final season, How I Met Your Mother used an aged-up Radnor to portray Ted later in life. Still, Cattrall will likely be integral to each episode. How I Met Your Father currently doesn't have a specific release date, but audiences can expect it to debut on Hulu in 2022.
