Robin Scherbatsky had quite an exciting professional career throughout How I Met Your Mother. The character, played by Cobie Smulders for the duration of the CBS sitcom, was originally introduced as Ted Mosby's love interest. She then quickly cemented herself as a key member of the core group, attaining a multitude of memorable storylines. Robin's profession was often in focus on the nine-season series as her résumé continued to grow as she got older.

Robin was born in Canada where she spent her childhood and early teenage years. From a young age, Robin didn't have the best relationship with her father, who raised her as a boy since he originally wanted a son, eventually leading to her moving in with her mother before relocating to the US. Based on her upbringing, Robin formed tomboyish tendencies in addition to commitment problems with men. Despite the issues surrounding her early life, Robin was headstrong when it came to advancing her career.

Unlike the other primary characters on How I Met Your Mother, Robin attained her first career gig at a very young age. As a teen, Robin emerged as a Canadian pop star named Robin Sparkles. She first starred on the TV show, Space Teens, before embarking on her solo tour throughout malls in Canada. Her musical career came to an end when Robin released "P.S. I Love You," a song that featured her grunge transformation. Shortly after, Robin got her first journalism gig as a reporter for Channel 22 in Red Deer, Alberta. In 2005, the character then joined Metro News 1 in New York City, which was the job she had when viewers were introduced to the character. From there, Robin managed to further her news anchor career.

After winning the Local Area Media Award for various "fluff pieces," Robin quickly worked her way up the ranks, acquiring the lead anchor position. In season 4, Robin realized she needed a change of scenery, so she quit her job to take a foreign correspondent gig in Japan. That too was short-lived, leading Robin to desperately return to NYC to take an extremely early morning show called Come On, Get Up New York! Robin auditioned to become the Currency Rotation Specialist (or "Coin Flip Bimbo") on the game show Million Dollar Heads or Tails, but she ultimately declined the offer for a dream gig.

After working as the host on the morning show, Robin found a job as a researcher at World Wide News. In time, Robin became a co-anchor with her former Metro News 1 co-worker, Sandy Rivers. The position became a turning point in Robin's career, but it also affected her relationship with then-husband, Barney Stinson. Robin's travel schedule and career-focus led to the pair's split. As shared in How I Met Your Mother, Robin went on to become a famous journalist, businesswoman, world traveler, and bullfighter before she reunited with Ted in the series finale.
