Hilary Duff joins her new castmates in the latest set photo from How I Met Your Father. The upcoming Hulu series is a spin-off of How I Met Your Mother, the ensemble sitcom that ran on CBS from 2005 to 2014. That series followed hopeless romantic Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) as he searched for love in NYC alongside his best friends. Each episode would see Ted speaking to his children in the future, gradually revealing more details about how he came to meet their mother.

Before How I Met Your Mother even concluded, there were plans for a gender-bent spin-off starring Greta Gerwig in the Ted role. That was later passed over, and for several years, it seemed like nothing more would come of the series. Earlier this year, though, Hulu announced it had picked up How I Met Your Father, the latest spin-off attempt. Duff will play Sophie, a woman looking for love in the age of dating apps alongside her closest friends. Naturally, she too will be recounting the story of how she met her son's father, whose identity will remain a mystery.

With production kicking off on How I Met Your Father, Duff shared a picture of her fellow castmates. Gathering on the soundstage where they will shoot the show, Duff posed alongside Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran, Suraj Sharma, Chris Lowell, and Francia Raisa. They were joined by Brandon Micheal Hall, who will recur on the series. "Who’s ready for us??? We may or may not have been sitting in front of a certain someones apartment…." Duff wrote. This is Us' Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger will serve as creators, writers, and executive producers on this new project, while How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are also on board as executive producers. Duff is also a producer for How I Met Your Father. Most recently, Duff starred on the TV Land/Paramount+ series Younger and was expected to lead a Disney+ revival of her beloved YA series Lizzie McGuire, though that was scrapped last year over creative differences.

There's a lot of curiosity surrounding How I Met Your Father right now, largely over how it will connect to the flagship series. Duff confirmed it will hold references and possibly even guest stars from How I Met Your Mother, and fans are already speculating about how exactly they could match up. Tie-ins aside, it's exciting to see the new cast assembled and ready to go. Though Hulu hasn't set any kind of premiere date yet, How I Met Your Father could debut in early 2022 and introduce audiences to this new friend group and romantic mystery. Here's hoping it just manages to have a more satisfying ending.
