Singer Meghan Trainor cameos in How I Met Your Father season 2 as Ramona, Sophie’s neighbor who hired her to photograph her home birth. Hilary Duff's Sophie lies and says that she’s shot plenty of home births, which causes even more chaos when Ramona goes into labor early and her midwife isn’t there. In a memorable scene from the episode, Romana, Sophie, and Valentina are all screaming as they deliver the baby in the birthing tub.
While this scene was cut from How I Met Your Father season 2’s episode, promo images reveal that Sophie did end up taking pictures of Ramona and her new baby, who Future Sophie reveals was named “Ryleigh.” For Trainor’s first on-screen acting job, her guest-starring stint as Ramona was quite intense, especially since it primarily took place in a tub briefly filled with shrimp. Hopefully, Trainor’s character will be able to return in How I Met Your Father's future for a less chaotic storyline.

How I Met Your Mother didn’t often introduce the main characters’ neighbors, yet How I Met Your Father episode 2 is primarily centered around the gang’s interactions with those who live in their apartment buildings. While Sophie and Valentina opt to help Meghan Trainor’s character Ramona with her home birth, Charlie and Ellen are hosting a building party in an attempt to get their neighbor Rachel to talk to Ellen again. With more emphasis on the characters’ neighbors than HIMYM, the spinoff is setting up the opportunity for these figures like Romona to reappear throughout How I Met Your Father.
Additionally, since Sophie helped Ramona give birth to her child, the characters have established a connection that could reasonably extend beyond a one-episode appearance. After Kim Cattrall's Future Sophie tells her son the name of Ramona's baby, she says the word "nightmare," which could be referring to her opinion on the child's name or the child itself. If Sophie is calling the child a nightmare, this signifies she'll likely meet Ramona again down the line. How I Met Your Father has a few more cameos coming up in season 2, including HIMYM’s Barney Stinson and John Corbett’s character, but Meghan Trainor could still potentially return in the show’s future.
