How many episodes are in Obi-Wan Kenobi and when does the finale air on Disney+? It's been 17 years since Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen last played Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, respectively, on the big screen, in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith - and now they're returning for a new adventure in the Star Wars galaxy, one that will see them come face to face for the first time since Anakin turned to the dark side.

Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith and the Great Jedi Purge, which saw Emperor Palpatine enact Order 66 to wipe out the Jedi. This time, Darth Vader's Jedi hunters, the Inquisitorius, are being unleashed to hunt down the remaining Jedi, including Kenobi himself, who's been in hiding on Tatooine, fulfilling his oath to look after Anakin's son, Luke Skywalker. Of course, that only accounts for the basis of the story.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series was originally envisioned as a movie, but with the launch of Disney+, Lucasfilm opted to turn the story into a TV show, which finally premiered in May 2022. Obi-Wan Kenobi will have six episodes in total, two of which premiere back-to-back on May 27th. As long as there aren't any interruptions in the schedule, which there shouldn't be considering it hasn't happened with any other Marvel or Star Wars series yet, Obi-Wan Kenobi's finale will air on June 22nd.

Will Obi-Wan Kenobi Air On Wednesdays Or Fridays?

The plan was for Obi-Wan Kenobi to premiere on Wednesday, May 25th - coinciding with the 45th anniversary of George Lucas' original Star Wars movie - but back in March, Lucasfilm changed the premiere date to Friday, May 27th. The new date allows Obi-Wan Kenobi to air alongside Star Wars Celebration, which returns for the first time since before the pandemic began. But after the premiere, Obi-Wan Kenobi will move back to Wednesdays for the rest of its run, unless Lucasfilm changes its mind.

Will There Be An Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2?

Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 is unlikely to happen. The show was conceived as a limited series, with six episodes only. While there's precedent for limited series becoming ongoing ones, with second and third seasons, there would need to be clear-cut reason to bring back Obi-Wan and Darth Vader again, or at least one of them. Obi-Wan Kenobi as a series is meant to tell one story within Star Wars' Dark Times, bridging the gap between the prequel and original trilogy versions of Obi-Wan. To do more seasons, McGregor would need to agree to come back again, and it took long enough just to get one season underway.
