How long it takes to beat Hogwarts Legacy has been revealed by the game developers during an interview with Screen Rant. Set to begin releasing next month, Hogwarts Legacy will offer a brand-new take on the Harry Potter universe, with well-known locations that house fresh characters and conflicts. While the more intricate details of the game are still unknown, it's been teased that there will be lots of secrets to discover and things to do that will make the title's runtime quite variable.

It seems that Hogwarts Legacy will keep players very busy, from completing challenges in the Field Guide issued when they arrive at Hogwarts to side quests and magic classes. While the central plot of Hogwarts Legacy centers around the Goblin Rebellion of the late 1800s, it seems that will only be part of the game's detailed and interactive universe. Going into any new game, it's natural for players to wonder how long they'll be spending with the title - this is how long Hogwarts Legacy takes to beat.

How Long To Beat Hogwarts Legacy's Story

Completing Hogwarts Legacy's main storyline will take approximately 35 hours, according to leaked information compiled by Reddit user Spheromancer. Said info comes from an early look at the official Hogwarts Legacy artbook leaked on Twitter, but the original source's tweets have since been deleted. The 35-hour estimate remains unconfirmed, but in a recent Hogwarts Legacy interview with Screen Rant, Avalanche Studios’ Lead Game Designer Alan Tew and Senior Environment Artist Boston Madsen discussed the length of the game and confirmed a completionist run of the title will take substantially longer.

Completing Hogwarts Legacy in its entirety will take roughly 80 hours or more, according to Tew, who told Screen Rant:

"My first time going through, 100% took me over 80 hours. [...] You can imagine, I understand the game really well."

While a previous leak revealed the achievement list for Hogwarts Legacy, it still wasn't clear just how many of them would be unlocked naturally through progression of the main storyline and which would require some extra effort from players. The 45-hour jump from the main storyline length claimed in leaks to full completion shows there's definitely a lot more in the game to explore if a player is looking to 100% complete Hogwarts Legacy.

While there are still many Hogwarts Legacy details to be revealed before release, learning the game's full length is quite telling in itself when it comes to what players can expect. Even without specifics, with such a large difference between the two completion times there are inevitably a lot of side quests and things to discover. With an 80-hour length, 100% completion may be too much for some to strive towards simply from a time-sink standpoint, but it's great that the option exists for those who want it.

While PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players will be able to begin the lengthy journey that is Hogwarts Legacy in February, other fans will unfortunately have some more time to wait before they dive into the Wizarding World. Even though the last-generation console and Nintendo Switch Hogwarts Legacy release dates are farther in the future, whenever players get their hands on the game they'll have hours of magical content waiting for them. Hopefully the content within those 80 hours lives up to fan expectations for Hogwarts Legacy when the title begins its release next month.
